3 Working definition for advocacy To persuade others to lend support and credibility by committing resources (buy in) Advocacy is about explaining and promoting the key concepts to stakeholders who need to understand what OA&IRs are, why they are important and the benefits of depositing their research Advocacy and service development go hand in hand OA&IR: Securing academic and admin support

4 Advocacy towards good OA&IR working relationships Advocacy has a lot in common with marketing : Segment your target groups and tailor your message to suit their needs; deliver it in their language and with the most appropriate means of communication Only those aspects that are important to them OA&IR: Securing academic and admin support
