1 Michael Lewis Michael Lewis was born October 15, 1960 in New Orleans, LA. He is married to Tabitha Soren, former MTV reporter. They have three children and live in California. He graduated from Princeton and in 1985 received his master's degree from the London School of Economics. Salomon Brothers hired him as a bond salesman shortly after. He moved to New York for training. He became annoyed with his job and left Salomon to write about his experience in the industry. The book he published in 1989, Liar's Poker remains one of the best written books on investment banking. After, Lewis found great success as a financial journalist and a bestselling author. (Info found at bookbrowse.com) “Michael Lewis Biography” Book written by Michael Lewis Michael Lewis is a financial journalist and non-fiction author. He has a wide range of knowledge from topics such as sports and economics. Lewis does his research before he writes and it shows in his books. Since he has first hand knowledge in some of the topics he writes about he can give an in-depth analysis. His bestselling books include The New New Thing, Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine, and Liar's Poker. As I read about Michael Lewis I thought I had found an author that could keep my attention and I did! I was surprised to find out how many best-selling books he has written. I was only aware of The Big Short and Moneyball. I also learned that he uses his past experiences to better his writing and give readers something interesting to read. Another thing I found out as I read about him was that he is viewed very highly by many people and critics. A few of his books have even been made into movies. Michael Lewis is like the author Jonah Keri. They are similar because they have both written books about baseball. But the thing that connects them more than that is what parts of baseball that they wrote about. Both have written books on the finical part of running a Major league Baseball team. They wrote about strategies that can help teams on how they should spend their money and who they should spend it on. Dan Ackman of Forbes said that Lewis had a special talent: "He can walk into an area already mined by hundreds of writers and find gems there all along but somehow missed by his predecessors." A N ew York Times piece said that "no one writes with more narrative panache about money and finance than Mr. Lewis" (wikipedia.com)

2 If you like the following subjects/themes, then you might like reading Michael Lewis: 1. Finances 2. Baseball 3. Economics 4. Investigating 5. Journalism So you want to write like Michael Lewis? The first step to be able to write like Lewis is that the person writing must have a great knowledge of their topic. They must also have first hand knowledge/experience in the topic they are writing. Next, the writing also must be so interesting that if anyone were to pick it up they would not be able to put it down. The book has to grab the reader’s attention and never lose it. Lastly, they must make the reader appreciate the topic they wrote on even if they had no prior knowledge of the topic. Passage from Moneyball by Michael Lewis This argument had nothing to do with Jeremy Brown. It was about how to find a big league ballplayer. In the scouts' view, you found a big league ballplayer by driving sixty thousand miles, staying in a hundred crappy motels, and eating god knows how many meals at Denny's all so you could watch 200 high school and college baseball games inside of four months, 199 of which were completely meaningless to you. Most of your worth derived from your membership in the fraternity of old scouts who did this for a living. The other little part came from the one time out of two hundred when you would walk into the ballpark, find a seat on the aluminum plank in the fourth row directly behind the catcher, and see something no one else had seen—at least no one who knew the meaning of it. You only had to see him once. "If you see it once, it's there," says Erik. "There's always been that belief in scouting." And if you saw it once, you, and only you, would know the meaning of what you saw. You had found the boy who was going to make you famous.
