3 Your myelin sheath is important to your cells because it acts as an insulator to increase the rate of transmission signals.

4 When you have multiple sclerosis, you the myelin sheath is destroyed from inflammation. When this is damaged your nerve impulses are stopped or slowed. This happens when your bodies immune system attacks the nervous system.

5 The symptoms that come along with multiple sclerosis vary. Some examples are : problems walking, unable to balance, frequent and difficulty urination, vision loss, depression, dizziness, hearing loss, hard time figuring things out.

7 There is no cure for multiple sclerosis but there are therapies that are used to help maintain a normal healthy lifestyle as much as possible. Some of these medications are Interferons (Avonex, Betaseron, or Rebif), glatiramer acetate (Copaxone), mitoxantrone (Novantrone), and natalizumab (Tysabri) Fingolimod (Gilenya ) These are all long term medications that help decrease the progression of Multiple Sclerosis. There are many other type of medications to help eliminate or decrease some of the long term outcomes from having this disease.
