Led By The Spirit Romans 8:14

Sins of the Gentiles (Ch. 1) Sins of the Jews (Ch. 2) Both Jews & Gentiles have sinned (Rom. 3:9) “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23)

Justification is possible (Rom. 3:24-31) Abraham the example and Jesus making it possible (Rom. 4 & 5) Man cannot save himself, God sent Jesus to save (Rom. 5:6-8) Solution: Christ and His blood and being buried with Him in Baptism (Rom. 6:3-4) “For he who has died to( been baptized) is freed from sin” (Rom. 6:7)

We are then instructed to “…present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members (bodies) as instruments of righteousness to God” (Rom. 6:13) We now “serve in newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter” (Rom. 7:6)

Living according to the Spirit is brought out in Romans 8:1-4 Those who are in Christ Jesus have been saved from the law of sin and are now under a new law—the law of the Spirit! Thus being set free and under new law, we must follow a new path and be led by the Spirit (Rom. 8:5-17). “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons (children) of God (Rom. 8:14).

The Spirit Does NOT Mysteriously Lead It is not impossible or too difficult to explain; and is it incapable of being understood (1 Cor. 2:9-12) “Led” is for AGO and is used figuratively as “to bear, bring, carry, lead” (Vine) This tells us WHAT the Spirit does; HOW does He do it?

The Spirit Does NOT Miraculously Lead There was a time when this occurred (Acts 8:26-40 [29, 39}; Acts 16:6, 9) Miraculous intervention has ceased (1 Cor. 13:8-10; Heb. 2:3-4)

The Spirit Does NOT Directly Lead How is one led to be a Christian? By the preaching of the message of salvation (Acts 11:14; 15:7; 1 Cor. 1:18; James 1:21)

How Are Christians Led By The Spirit? By telling us how to live (Rom. 1:16-17)

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “ But the righteous man shall live by faith.”

How Are Christians Led By The Spirit? By telling us how to live (Rom. 1:16-17) “But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form (pattern) of teaching (doctrine) to which you were committed” (Rom. 6:17)

The writers of the Old Testament and New Testament wrote under inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Tim. 3:16-17) – Profitable: Doctrine, Reproof, Correction. Instruction in righteousness – That the man of God (results): Perfect (complete, competent, adequate) Equipped for every good work

The Spirit leads today through the word of God That word is “able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 3:15)
