Layouts, Plotting, Printing1 Sacramento City College Engineering Design Technology

Layouts, Plotting, Printing2 Objectives u Add title blocks and viewports to layouts u Create new layouts u Manage layouts u Select a plotting device u Modify a plotting device configuration u Create, modify and use plot styles and tables u Select plot settings u Describe alternative plotting methods u Print/plot a drawing

Layouts, Plotting, Printing3 Layout Setup

Layouts, Plotting, Printing4 Layout Setup u A Layout u Is an arrangement of objects on a sheet of paper for plotting purposes. u Can contain u Viewports u Title block u Notes, graphics

Layouts, Plotting, Printing5 Layouts u Layouts u Drawing file can contain multiple layouts u When first selected u Default layout is 8.5 x 11 in landscape

Layouts, Plotting, Printing6 Inserting a Border u Layouts u Most contain a border and a title block u It is best to insert the blocks into the layout and then save it as a template file.

Layouts, Plotting, Printing7 Floating Viewports u When a new layout is created u A single default floating viewport is created. u Viewport allows you to “see” into Model Space from Layout Space.

Layouts, Plotting, Printing8 Floating Viewports u Floating viewports u Are “holes” cut into the paper in the layout tab so that the model space drawing can be seen. u Are separate objects u Can be u Moved, copied, sized and u Can overlap other viewports.

Layouts, Plotting, Printing9 The MVIEW Command u Creating floating viewports u Is like creating tiled viewports in Model space. u Command: MVIEW (MV) u Specify corner of viewport or [ON/OFF/Fit/Shadeplot/Lock/Object/Polygonal /Restore/Layer/2/3/4

Layouts, Plotting, Printing10 The MVIEW Command u u Default choice. u Creates a single rectangular floating viewport that fills the entire printable area on the sheet. u 2/3/4 u Creates preset viewport configurations of 2, 3, or 4. u ON/OFF u Activate/deactivates the Model space display within a viewport.

Layouts, Plotting, Printing11 The MVIEW Command u Lock u Locks the view in one or more viewports. u ZOOM and PAN are disabled. u Prevents accidental resizing of a viewport after a ZOOM XP command has been used to correct scale a viewport for plotting to scale. u Object u Changes a closed polygon drawn in layout space into a floating viewport. u Circles, ellipses, polygons and other closed shapes.

Layouts, Plotting, Printing12 The MVIEW Command u Polygonal u Draws a floating viewport outline using a polyline u It can be of any closed shape (lines/arcs) u Restore u Converts saved viewport configurations into individual floating viewports. u Layer u Resets viewport layer property overrides.
