2 Voices of Colonial America  Imagine looking through the eyes of a person who lived 300 years ago  America has changed in many ways 1. The population has grown 2. Modern technology has given us many advances 3. Transportation has changed People used to depend on horses and ships for transportation (Colonists built settlements near harbors to move goods)

3 Native Americans  Native Americans had been in America for hundreds of years before the settlers  They did not live in settlements  They lived in the wilderness  They survived by farming, hunting, and fishing

4 Nonfiction in Colonial Literature  The colonists enjoyed reading for many reasons  Remember, people could not get the news on television or radio  Most colonial literature is nonfiction---deals with facts or ideas  They published newspapers and almanacs--- collections of a variety of practical information

5 Topics in Colonial Literature  They were passionate about politics  They witnessed the American Revolution and the founding of the USA  They wondered about how to define an American  They liked reading biographies  As we study, imagine what life was like for the colonial Americans!
