Magnetism temperatures By: Mae Williams

Big Question I want to find out if magnetism is affected by warm temperatures. I want to know this because I think this is a good way to learn about magnets.

Hypothesis I believe that the warmer temperature will increase the magnets strength.

Facts from research There are many things I learned from this experiment. I learned that magnetism is affected with temperature. Metallic Magnets can loose their magnetism at very high temperatures.

Experiment materials 1 pot 1 ruler (inches and cm) W ater 1 0 metal objects 1 thermometer 1 magnet A stove

Step by step instructions First take out a aluminum (non-magnetic) pot. Then fill ¾ of the pot with cold water. Get the magnet and put 6 metal balls onto it. Carefully put the magnet and balls into the water. Use the thermometer to check the water’s temperature. Put the pot on the stove and begin to heat, then check temperature. Add more objects to see if warm water or cold water holds more or less.

Control variable T he control variable is temperature

Observations T here are observations I took in this experiment. I tried to collect data from this experiment.

Data I measured temperatures from 0 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit and all balls remained connected. I think that temperature does not affect magnetism.

Analysis of Data The experiment tested my hypothesis. I know because it tempted me to find out if I was right.

Conclusion My hypothesis was incorrect. I would change how many metal balls I put on at first. Why didn’t temperature affect magnetism?
