1 vClass Policies & Procedures for Success “Little by little, one travels far.” -JRR Tolkien

2 What is vClass?  vClass is the CMA’s way of hosting an online, live classroom.  You can interact with your mentor and peers through discussion, research,collaboration and presentation.  You can meet with your mentor for tutoring, or a parent conference.

3 vClass Demonstration  Want to see what vClass is like?  Click on the image to your right and you can pop in on the site and look around! Make sure you have your student password handy!

4 What are the requirements?  Students are required to attend all scheduled vClasses ( see makeup policy for missed classes), and complete.5 academic credit per month to be in compliance.  Students will earn.5 credits each year for successfully completing the vClass requirements.

5 Why does attendance matter?  vClass attendance is mandatory.  Without contact time between the student and mentor, CMA would lose accredidation and you would lose your school.  Students cannot graduate without it!

6 How do I make up a class?  You are required to attend each scheduled weekly meeting. If you miss a class you can: Attend a course from the same week or Review a transcript from the same week and submit a summary via email that tells me what you would have contributed, and one website that would have helped the class understand the topic.

7 How am I evaluated in vClass? Category 3 Strong 2 Fair 1 Weak Presence Always on time for scheduled class. Often on time, or sometimes Tardy. Rarely on time, often tardy. Participation Offers ideas, listens thoughtfully, asks questions. Sometimes offers ideas, listens most of the time & will ask questions. Rarely offers ideas, does not listen, does not ask questions. Preparation Exercises completed. Some exercises Completed. Not prepared for class.

8 Participation Defined  Participation in vClass is defined by: Listening to your classmates and mentor,and replying after reflecting on your answer. Evaluate other’s work and your own. Utilizing listening and observation skills to gain understanding of the topic and presentations or projects.

9 Preparation Defined  Student comes to vClass prepared with outside work completed. Ready to participate within the guidelines of the topic provided for the week.  Prepared to make individual presentations.

10 Presence defined  Presence means you are at class, on time.  That you, as a student, take accountability for entering the classroom without being tardy and you are prepared to participate.

11 vClassroom Behavior  Students should treat their peers and their mentor like they would like to be treated. Respect each other!  AWNT (Absolutely Will Not Tolerate) Put downs Rudeness Racial or cultural slurs Negative attitude AWNT will receive one warning and then will be removed from class. (See makeup policy)

12 Five Tips for Success  Check schedule for weekly topics.  Arrive 10-15 minutes early.  Make sure you are prepared to participate when you arrive.  Arrive with a positive attitude and a willingness to try new things.  Pay attention: listen, read, reflect and ask questions.
