4 Vocabulary Words Active Pane: The pane in which the insertion point is currently located. Commands and actions occur in the active pane Default: Standard. Preset conditions installed with the software Footer: text or graphics printed at the bottom of all pages in a document Header: Text or graphics printed at the top of all pages in a document

5 Insertion Point: The flashing vertical line that indicates where the next action will occur in a document onscreen Non-Printing Characters such a paragraph marks and tab symbols that are not printed in a document but can be displayed on screen Paragraph Marker: A non-printing character inserted in a document to indicate where a paragraph ends. Word-Wrap: A feature that causes text to move automatically from the end of one line to the beginning of the next line

6 Content Starting Word Default settings – Print layout view/showing most common tools you need to create, edit, format, and distribute a document Review Parts of Word Screen (Pg 82) Review different views – Print layout – Web layout – Outline view – Full Screen View – Draft view

7 Non-Printing Characters Characters that do not print on your document but show spaces, tabs, paragraph, etc using specific marks. – Period (.) – Paragraph (¶) – Tab (->) Turn this feature on by clicking the (¶) button or Ctrl + *

9 Typing in a Document Insertion Point – Characters inserted to left on insertion point – You can move as desired Word wrap – Automatically wraps text at the end of a line to the beginning of the next line If you press enter, word insert a paragraph mark and starts a new paragraph
