6 CHECKPOINT CHECKPOINT CHALLENGE: Use your partners for this challenge.
The group that can produce at least two answers for this question, choose one person to write on the board, and complete it the fastest on the board will win a small prize. ***HOW DID EARLY HUMANS’ NEW TOOL KIT MAKE THE TASK OF SURVIVAL EASIER?****

7 STOP!!!! Three Muskateers Game/M&M Game
How did the Neolithic People (living from around 8000BC-3000BC) change the way humans live FOREVER??!!!

8 THE NEOLITHIC REVOLUTION
Listen to Ms. Leider’s interesting story of how agriculture began! In your own words, what happened?

9 THE NEOLITHIC REVOLUTION
Definition of NEOLITHIC REVOLUTION: Agricultural Revolution Shift from food-gathering to food producing culture One of the greatest breakthroughs in ALL of HUMAN HISTORY!!!!!!

10 THE NEOLITHIC REVOLUTION
CAUSES OF THE AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION Change in climate-the earth warmed up! Rich supply of grain could support a large population As population rose, more demand was placed on hunters-naturally turned to farming!

11 THE NEOLITHIC REVOLUTION
EARLY FARMING METHODS SLASH AND BURN METHOD: farmers cut trees/grasses and burned them to clear a field They would plant for a 1-2 years on the field Then they would move on, trees/grass would grow back, and the process was repeated

12 THE NEOLITHIC REVOLUTION
DOMESTICATION OF ANIMALS Farmers began to TAME animals Horses, dogs, goats, and pigs Developed very slowly at first! Began to enclose the animals as constant food source and taming

13 THE NEOLITHIC REVOLUTION
Jarmo REVOLUTION IN JARMO Area in modern-day Iraq, near Zargos Mountains First agricultural settlement there About 9000 years ago! Laid the foundation of modern life Once had wild wheat and barley, wild goats, Pigs, sheep, and horses

14 VILLAGES GROW AND PROSPER
FARMING DEVELOPS IN MANY PLACES Africa: The Nile River Valley for wheat, barley, and other crops China: Chang Jiang River delta domesticated wild rice Mexico and Central America: Farmers cultivated corn, beans, and squash Peru: Farmers in Central Andes grew tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and white potatoes

15 CHECKPOINT USE YOUR OWN STUDY GUIDE TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION
We will check your answers when I say time is up. Your pencils must be put down at that time! WHAT ADVANTAGES DID FARMING AND HERDING HAVE OVER HUNTING AND GATHERING?
