4 Create a definition for the terms below: n First Nations: –Umbrella name of the diverse Aboriginal Peoples n Metis: –One of mixed European & Aboriginal Ancestry n Inuit: –“The People” – native inhabitants of the arctic north (Eskimo means “Eaters of Raw Flesh”) n Anglophone: –An English speaking Canadian (1 st language) n Francophone: –A French speaking Canadian (1 st language)

5 Collective Rights & Legislation n First Nations: –Indian Act & Treaties (Historic & Modern) n Metis: –Manitoba Act & Modern Treaties n Inuit: –Modern Treaties n Anglophone & Francophone: –Constitution (Charter of Rights & Freedoms section)

6 Groups in Canada n With a partner, come up with a list for all the people groups you can think of in Canada.

7 n If you were a member of a culturally distinct group, what three things would you want the law to protect for you? n n n n Why are those three freedoms so important to you?

8 Collective Rights nDnDnDnDefine the following: –C–C–C–Collective Identity: The shared identity of a group of people, especially because of a common language and culture –C–C–C–Collective Rights Rights guaranteed to specific groups in Canadian society for historical and constitutional reasons.
