2. Background Papakura Youth Leadership Forum in conjunction with the Papakura District Council, are proud to host the 2010 Papakura Youth Awards. These awards give the wider community an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate local youth. The Papakura District Council Youth Leadership Forum was set up in 2007 bringing together youth leaders from both Papakura High School and Rosehill College to extend their talents and leadership skills. They are assisted by mentors and community role models who attend the forum to support the youth leaders. The youth leaders coordinate the event along side volunteers from the community. We encourage you to nominate youth who you feel should be recognised for their individual and /or group achievements. There are a number of ways to be involved with this special event. Please read the material provided in this pack for information on how to nominate youth for different awards categories, how to be a sponsor or volunteer your time to the 2010 Papakura Youth Awards.

4. It’s all about You th Rules Rules that apply to all awards: 1.These awards are a recognition of accomplishments and achievements from the 1 st January 2009 to the 31 st December 2009 2.Nominees must reside within the Papakura District or currently attend a College or Club within the Papakura District E.g. Papakura High School, Rosehill College, Strathallan College, Drury Christian School, etc. Please contact us if you are unsure of which schools fall within these boundaries 3.All nominees must have been between the ages of 13 and 18 years in the 2009 year 4.Nominations must be received by the Papakura Youth Forum by the 7 th May 2010, 3pm 5.Nominations received after the close off date will not be accepted 6.There is no limit to how many nominations you submit for any award category, and you are able to submit nominations for multiple awards

It’s all about You th Award Specifications AwardSpecifications for each award.Information to be included with nomination Female Scholar of the Year 2009 Male Scholar of the Year 2009 This award is given to an overall outstanding scholar. This young woman/ young man would have excelled in all subjects taken in the 2009 year. Attitude to learning, behaviour and attendance will also be taken into account when selecting a student for this award.  Examination results  Attendance record  Summary of attitude to learning and behaviour through out 2009  Background on student Visual Arts AwardPapakura Youth Arts Competition and Art Show will be co-ordinated by the Papakura Art Gallery and awarded at the Papakura Youth Awards. It’s all about You th Award Specifications AwardSpecifications for each award.Information to be included with nomination Best Performance Drama/Dance - Individual or Group This award is for an individual or group of students who have excelled in their chosen field. Performance in Drama/Dance includes: ballet, modern dance, kapa haka, cultural group and drama/acting. Please contact us directly if you would like to know if your nominated individual/group fits within this category.  Any recognition of performance  Photographs/film and background of the specific performance/s that prompted this nomination  Background on individual/group Musician This award is for an individual musician who has excelled in their field E.g. Lead vocalist, Composer, Conductor, Instrumentalist  Any recognition of performance  Photographs/film and background of the specific performance/s that prompted this nomination  Background on individual BandThis award is for a group of two or more students who have excelled in their chosen field. E.g. All team sports are eligible for nomination.  Any recognition of performance  Photographs/film and background of the specific team performance/s that prompted this nomination  Background on team Sports Woman of the Year Sports Man of the Year This award is given to a young woman/young man who achieved at the highest levels in 2009 in his/her chosen sport. His/her chosen sport could be an individual one or part of a team.  Event participation  Results achieved  Any recognition of performance  Background on nominee

It’s all about You th Award Specifications AwardSpecifications for each award.Information to be included with nomination Community Service – Individual Community Service - Group This award is for an individual/group who have demonstrated commitment and service to the Papakura community in 2009. You can nominate an individual/group for ongoing service or for a one off event that has enriched the lives of Papakura residents or an individual act that made a positive difference in the lives of Papakura residents.  Tell us your story about this youth/group  Describe the service rendered  Any recognition of this service  Background on nominee/s Outstanding LeadershipThis award is for an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership through action, skill and ability. 9. It’s all about You th Nomination Process Step One: Read through the awards categories this year and establish, through the criteria any individual or group that you would like to nominate. Step Two: Fill in the nomination form included in this pack and send it to Nominations must be received by 3.00pm on the 07 May 2010. 10. It’s all about You th Nomination Process continued Step Three: Each nomination received will be checked to make sure it meets all of the criteria specified. Once your nomination has been checked we will send you (the nominator) an acceptance/decline letter for each nomination received. If you have not received this letter by the 21 May 2010 please contact us directly as we do not want to miss any nomination for any award. A separate letter will be sent to each nominee letting them know they have been nominated for an award and in which category the nomination is in. Step Four: The judging panel will meet to go through and decide the winner for each award. The judges’ decision is final. Step Five: Recipients receive their awards at the Papakura Youth Awards evening to be held on the 20 August 2010 at The Hawkins Theatre.

12. It’s all about You th Becoming a Sponsor How can you help? There are four ways in which you can support the Papakura Youth Awards. 1.A financial donation towards the cost of the awards evening 2.Payment of an individual award which includes the cost of the award and the engraving with the recipient’s name on it. The donation required for this type of sponsorship is $148.00 (GST inclusive). 3. A financial gift to go with a particular award. The donation suggested for this type of sponsorship is anything up to $200.00 4.A gift or voucher to go with a particular award.
