Fitness and Statistics Fitness is defined as the condition of being physically fit and healthy. 13 percent of children and adolescents which is nearly 5.3 million are overweight.

Introduction The cause for the obesity in children, and adolescents is lack of fitness in physical education. Kenneth Cooper “all the gains made against heart disease in the past 20 years wiped out in the next 20 years (Siedentop and Mars, 211)”. The three most important cause of poor fitness performance in physical education are lack of physical education in elementary school, lack of allotted time in schools, and lack of interests of schools in creating social norms in the school.

Elementary School -Crucial Children encounter their first physical education in elementary school. If the child leave the third grade reading below grade level, they are likely to perform poor in academics later. Likewise, if physical education is enforced early in elementary schools, the child leaving third would not likely the victim of obese later (Siedentop and Mars 211)

Lack of Allotted Time- Another Problem Physical Educators see children for limited time or few days. In many states, the classroom teacher is also the physical education teacher. Georgia Legislature on fitness to improve health fitness levels Assessment

Creating Social Norm in schools- make it happen Social norms have to be developed in schools for youth to build habits that leads to lifetime commitment. Work together as a team. Enforcing nutrition policies and eating healthy (offering healthy breakfast and lunch).

My Position Many advertisements are made using cartoon characters to persuade children to engage into physical education and eat healthy. I think teachers should play those videos while they are in classroom for elementary school kids. Time- PE class should be extended to 59 minutes compared to 45 or keep students after school to keep academic subjects away from physical education Creating Norm- Schools should work as a team and also should invite famous athletes to aware students on eating healthy and staying fit.

IMPOSSIBLE= I M POSSIBLE I M POSSIBLE Aware Elementary Kids+ Give More time to PE Teachers + Creating Norm= Less Obesity and Healthy America
