2 Course Description The Biology Honors program introduces students to complex biological principles and processes that are not ordinarily covered in the college prep course and prepares them to continue with Advanced Placement Biology in 11th or 12th grade. The Biology Honors program introduces students to complex biological principles and processes that are not ordinarily covered in the college prep course and prepares them to continue with Advanced Placement Biology in 11th or 12th grade. The Biology program stresses conceptual development and provides insight into the thinking process behind scientific discovery. It emphasizes the need to understand basic concepts that provide the framework of the biological sciences and presents evolution as a unifying concept that interrelates all other areas of biology through lab investigations, problem solving and critical thinking. 3 Goals To develop the students' ability to gather, organize and communicate information through the use of the methods, Instruments and technologies of science. To develop the students' ability to gather, organize and communicate information through the use of the methods, Instruments and technologies of science. To promote interest and involvement, both lay and professional, in biology and bioethical Issues. To promote interest and involvement, both lay and professional, in biology and bioethical Issues. To develop a sense of responsibility to the environment through an understanding of the place of humans in the natural environment, and their dependence and impact upon it.
