Budget Status and FY04 Requests Elton Smith Hall D Collaboration Meeting Dec 11-13, 2003

GlueX Budget Proposal for FY03 Cardman suggests that we develop a budget proposal assuming a timely approval of CD-0 and Alternate strategy if approvals are delayed

Contract Status FIU: Contract awarded  JLab to purchase VLPC cassettes from Fermi UConn: Computer equipment ordered  Need iteration on drawings of active collimator IUCF: extension of present work approved IU: blanket order in place for electronics DAQ/Dartmouth: contract finalized(?)

We need clear definition of Front-end Signals (from Electronics Review)

Suggestions from electronics review Work on Front-ends  Tabulate specifications and requirements driven by the physics  Look at existing solutions (e.g. PHENIX, ATLAS, etc)  Prototype FE coupled with detector R&D.  To be developed are the vertex tracker, FDCs, CDCs (assuming barrel calorimeter finds an appropriate solution) Conceptual design of entire system including cabling, grounding, etc. Develop time distribution synchronization method DAQ: parallel event builder, L3 farm

Consider supporting personnel? JLab Cost sharing of post-doctoral positions

Actions and prerequisites

Discussion Large budget items require CD-0, unless exceptions are made to move them forward Any (small) R&D should certainly be supported by our budget allocation Support for manpower may be an effective way of using some of our funds  This will usually imply commitments for future years
