3 Transitive VS Intransitive Transitive Verbs Have objects Example: Sandy opened the window with great difficulty. Transitive Verb: opened Object: window Intransitive Verbs DO NOT have objects Example: The war began. Intransitive Verb: began

4 Linking Verbs A verb that connects a subject with a word that describes or identifies it. Example: He is a general for the North. Answer: Subject: He Linking Verb: is Descriptive Word/Identifier: general

5 Helping Verbs Placed before other verbs to form verb phrases. Verb Phrase= Helping Verb + Verb Examples: has opened Example used in sentence: More people should have been encouraged to study flight. Answer: Should have been encouraged
