SNUG Workshop 2015 AMA Update & Loop Fault Finding with a TDR

Achievements for 2014 – 2015 Year Ramp Metering upgrade of 8 site with additional detectors Mainline Loops & Queue Loops a total of 20 loops where cut Drury Estimate Journey Time (EJT) - 3 x Radar & 2 AWS Type D’s Redflex Speed camera @ SH20 Lambie Dr Special Projects for NZTA

Innovation Loop Counts Via a Ethernet Option A – Feeder & Duct to TDM Cabinet Option B – New Duct to nearby ITS Cab with PLC Option C – Feeder & Duct to another site TDM Cabinet Remote Loops at Constellation Options ABC QuantityCostQuantityCostQuantityCost Ducting250 $ 7,500.0054 $ 1,620.00500 $ 15,000.00 Feeder960 $ 4,320.0060 $ 270.00520 $ 2,340.00 Equipment $ 500.00 $ 2,450.00 $ 500.00 Traffic Control Full Closures1 $ 3,000.001 2 $ 6,000.00 Shoulders2 $ 1,000.001 $ 500.002 $ 1,000.00 Total $ 16,320.00 $ 7,840.00 $ 24,840.00 Option B Savings over A, C $ 8,480.00 $ 17,000.00

Innovation PLC - Allen Bradley Micrologix 1100 Point to Point Link Many to One Loop Counts Via a Ethernet Moxa E1212 ioLogik

PLC Encoding of Loop Triggers

Moxa - ioLogik

Future Planned Work CMJ Motorway to Motorway Interchange Upgrade Renewal of ITS assets – Traffic Signal Controller, 4 x AWS sign 250mm character display System to utilise existing cable infrastructure The sign interface emulates a TDM AWS interface Connection via Moxa ioLogik over Ethernet and RS485 to the sign

Future Planned Work Over Height Detection System – Penrose Over bridge @ 4.41m Old neon signs replaced with VMS (colour) x 6 Refresh of Sensors and new Comms path via Ethernet OHDS

VMS Renewals SWARCO - Austria 13 signs have been supplied 6 x VMS for renewal of Daktronics signs 6 x Signs for Penrose over height system 1 x Sign for new SH16 Brigham Creek site

Old Vs New FULL Matrix Display (can display pictures) 20mm Pixel Pitch (currently 57mm) Full Colour Display (currently single colour) Certified to meet EN12966:2009 EUROPEAN STANDARD FOR VMS signs

Graphic Capabilities

Renewal of ATMS4 Traffic Detection Assets Replacement of 32 x Tyco Inductive Loop Detector sites on the AMA network Data Collected: From dual loops Volume Occupancy Speed Veh Length Classification in 4 Bins Real Time and Historic Logging Outputs A new internal Specification and Functional Requirements are about to be written for the supply of a new system

Time Domain Reflectometer Loop Feeder Cables

Time Domain Reflectometer – Loop Feeder Cables A pulse is sent down the transmission line the reflection back is a function of what the Pulse encounters during and at the end of the line. An ideal transmission line should show no reflection if the source, line and load are perfectly matched in impedance.

Time Domain Reflectometer – Loop Feeder Cables Factors: Pulse Width 6nSec – 100nsec Pulse Amplitude Cable Velocity Factor or Velocity of Propagation Loop feeder cable VF 0.55 – 0.63

Our 5 priorities We are a high performing team that has focused on the alliancing principles and KRA's to deliver outstanding performance to our customers, the NZ Transport Agency and our home organisations. TDR Waveform – Impedance Mismatch

Damaged Feeder Ramp metering site there was a detector fault loop was open circuit Both showing an Open Circuit Black Trace stops ~ 20m Of the full length Red trace Reason – Rat damage Onewa Rd Feeder

Greenlane Feeder Mainline loops are located 320m linear length form the controller TDR trace shows A splice @ 101m Feeder open circuit @ 190m Reason – Collapse of Steel ducting

Tecoma St Count site Feeder Over counting and locking off Det 7 Det 7 (lane 2 Mainline)

Tecoma St Count site Feeder Det 7 (lane 2 Mainline) Feeder From Site 72m of 4pair 0.75mm² All Pairs DC Resistance 3.2Ω - 3.4 Ω Inductance (with short) Pair 1 =44.6µH Pair 2 = 46.6µH Pair 3 =45.1µH Pair 4 =40.2µH Insulation Resistance All pairs > 4000M Ω

Tecoma St Count site Feeder 72m of 4pair 0.75mm² 1 st splice @ 42m 2 nd splice @ 59m Det 7 (lane 2 Mainline)

Tecoma St Count site Feeder Det 7 (lane 2 Mainline) Spice Zoom

Tecoma St Count site Feeder Cable Splice Det 7 (lane 2 Mainline) Crimp Joints

Tecoma St Count site Feeder SCATS Data for Loops 6,7,8 Det 7 (lane 2 Mainline) Fault Fixed
