2. Living things are all around us! Nonliving things are too! Do you know the difference between living and nonliving things?

3. Look at these things: These things are nonliving.

4. Nonliving things are man-made. What does that mean? Nonliving things are made by PEOPLE. Toys, shoes, and pencils are made in factories. Books are written by authors. Food is cooked by chefs. Houses, buildings, and roads are built by construction workers. Clothes are sewn by seamstresses. Rocks, clouds, and stars are created by nature.

5. Look at these things: These are living things.

6. You are a living thing too!

7. Living things grow. How have you grown?

8. Living things use energy! What does that mean? Living things eat, and they make themselves move.

9. Living things have babies! Plants have seeds!

10. Living things respond to their environment. What does that mean? Living things know where they are.

11. Living things adapt to their environment. What does that mean?
