3 Physical Aspects Hardness of a opal 5.5-6.5 Color of a opal –come in almost every color from white through yellow, orange, green, blue, red and black. In many cases a whole rainbow of colors could be displayed on one single opal

4 Chemical Composition composed of non-crystalline silicon gel – over millions of years has hardened in forms of small silica spheres arranged in regular patterns You will never find the same silica spheres

5 Where is it found and used for? Opals are found – manufactured throughout Australia and few –black opal is found in New South Wales in Australia –Brazil, Peru, Turkey, Nicaragua, Hungary, Ethiopia and Guatemala Opals are used mostly to make money off of like –jewelry
