(2)Identify all the steps to cross a contaminated area. (3)Identify all the steps to conduct after mission operations.

6 Plan Operations in an NBC Contaminated Environment CONDITIONS: Given a simulated situation where you have received orders to cross a contaminated area; a unit with MOPP gear; and a defined radiological, chemical, or biological contaminated area. STANDARD: Identify the information that must be considered when planning crossing operations, to include troop exposure and decontamination support requirements.

7 Plan Operations (Radiological) (1) Disconnect power supplies from electronic equipment not in use. (2)Limit the amount of troop exposure. (a)Follow OEG. (b)Determine size of the contaminated area.

8 Plan Operations (Radiological) (3)Coordinate decontamination support. (a)Obtain permission to conduct decontamination and to obtain necessary support. (b)Select link-up point to meet supporting units. (c)Coordinate with supporting elements. (d)The commander and NBC personnel of the contaminated unit select a site to conduct the operation.

9 Plan Operations (Biological) (1)Limit the amount of troop exposure. (a)Determine size of contaminated area. (b)Use MOPP Analysis. (2)Coordinate decontamination support. (a)Obtain permission to conduct decontamination and to obtain necessary support. (b)Select link-up point to meet supporting units.

10 Plan Operations (Biological) (c)Coordinate with supporting elements. (d)The commander and NBC personnel of the contaminated unit select a site to conduct the operation. (e)Arrange for replacement MOPP gear. (f)Coordinate with the decon unit and other supporting elements to see if they will also conduct a MOPP Gear Exchange.

11 Prepare Equipment to Cross Contaminated Area CONDITIONS: Given a simulated situation where you have received orders to cross a contaminated area; a unit with MOPP gear; organic decontamination equipment; chemical and radiological detection and warning devices; and DA Form 2404.

12 Prepare Equipment to Cross Contaminated Area STANDARD: Identify all organic decontamination equipment and chemical and radiological detection and warning devices required to cross a contaminated area and plan needed PMCS.

13 Conduct Pre-Combat Checks (Radiological) IM-93/IM-147 Dosimeter DT-236 Dosimeter AN/PDR-75 Radiac Set IM-174 Radiacmeter AN/VDR Radaic Set

14 Conduct Pre-Combat Checks (Radiological) (2)Seal vehicles. Ensure that vehicle operators have: (a)Closed all doors, windows, hatches, and vents on their vehicles. (b)Provided shielding such as sandbags (to reduce the amount of radiation that enters the vehicle) for the floors and sides of all vehicles.

15 Conduct Pre-Combat Checks (Radiological) Individual Protective Measures

16 Conduct Pre-Combat Checks (Radiological) (4)Check the advance party. (a)Ensure that the advance party has been issued detection equipment and that the equipment is operational. (b)Ensure that the advance party has been issued and understands the instructions on reporting contamination.

17 Conduct Pre-Combat Checks (Biological) (1)Seal vehicles. (2)Check individual protective measures. (a)Ensure all MOPP gear is present and operational. (b)Assume appropriate MOPP level as required. (c)Ensure first aid gear is present and operational. (3)Check the advance party.

18 Conduct Pre-Combat Checks (Chemical) Chemical Agent Monitor M256 Chemical Agent Detector Kit M8 Chemical Agent Detector Paper M9 Chemical Agent Detector Paper

19 Conduct Pre-Combat Checks (Chemical) (2)Seal vehicles. (3)Check individual protective measures. (a)Ensure all MOPP gear is present and operational. (b)Assume MOPP4. (c) Ensure first aid equipment is present and operational. (4)Check the advance party.

20 Conduct Safety Briefing CONDITIONS: Given a simulated situation where your unit is preparing to cross a contaminated area and you are responsible for providing information vital to their safety while crossing. STANDARD: Identify information the briefing must address to include: identification of equipment operators, communication procedures, priorities, and plan for halts.

21 Conduct Safety Briefing (1)Designate equipment operators. (2)Explain the NBCWRS.

22 Conduct Safety Briefing (3)Explain actions to be taken at halts (if applicable). (a)Time interval between, and duration of, halts. (b)What to do if a vehicle breaks down. (c)What to do in case of a ground or air attack.

23 Work in & Cross Contaminated Area CONDITIONS: Given a simulated situation where you have received orders to cross a contaminated area; a unit with MOPP gear; organic decontamination equipment; chemical and radiological detection and warning devices; shielding materials; and a defined radiological, chemical, or biological contaminated area.

24 Work in & Cross Contaminated Area STANDARD: Identify all the requirements to work in and cross a contaminated area.

25 Move to a Radiological Contaminated Area (1)Locate contamination. (a)Instruct the operators of the radiation detection equipment to work on the move. (b)Ensure that the radiation detection equipment operators check their equipment either continuously or periodically. Frequency will depend upon the specific operational situation.

26 Move to a Radiological Contaminated Area (2)React to contaminants when detected. (a)Cover your airway (if not already covered). (b)Give the alarm. (c)Decontaminate yourself as necessary. (d)Administer first aid as necessary.

27 Cross a Radiological Contaminated Area (1)While in area: (a)Perform continuous monitoring. (b)Use the NBCWRS.

28 Cross a Radiological Contaminated Area (2)Monitor personnel. (a)Use a buddy system to watch for symptoms of radiological contamination. (b)Apply first aid as necessary. (c)Ensure water consumption.

29 Cross a Radiological Contaminated Area (3)Survive. (a)Avoid touching anything in the area if possible. (b)Use proper movement techniques. (c)Rotate soldiers to rest and eat if possible.

30 Move to a Biologically Contaminated Area React to contaminants when detected. (1)Mask. (2)Give the alarm. (3)Decontaminate yourself as necessary. (4)Put on the rest of your MOPP gear to reach MOPP4. (5)Administer first aid as necessary.

31 Cross a Biologically Contaminated Area (1)Use the NBCWRS. (2)Monitor personnel. (3)Survive.

32 Move to a Chemical Contaminated Area (1)Locate contamination. (a)Instruct chemical detection equipment to check their readings every 500 meters. (b)If the mission permits, instruct the operators to halt when operating the M256 kit. (2)React to contaminants when detected.

33 Cross a Chemical Contaminated Area (1)While in area: (a)Monitor chemical detection equipment continuously. (b)Use the NBCWRS. (2)Monitor personnel. (3)Survive.

34 Conduct After Mission Operations CONDITIONS: Given a simulated situation where you have just completed crossing a contaminated area; a unit with MOPP gear; organic decontamination equipment; chemical and radiological detection and warning devices; and shielding materials. STANDARD: Identify after mission operations to include identification of decontamination and restoration requirements.

35 Conduct After-Mission Operations (1)Check for contamination. (2)Plan restoration of the unit. (a)Request resupply of needed supplies. (b)Evacuate any casualties that were incurred during the crossing. (c)Continue to check for symptoms of radiological contamination. Give first aid as required.
