10 Spellings Spellings are given on a Thursday and tested the following Thursday. It is expected that children understand the meaning of the words being tested as well as the spelling. The spellings are linked to the phonic phases.

11 Literacy Writing O Please encourage your child to write at home and read back to you what they have read. O Spelling is not the most important thing at the moment when writing - the content is!

12 Reading at home and school O Children are expected to read each night at home for 15 minutes and parents are asked to comment in their Reading Records. Levelled reading books are changed 2-3 times a week. O When you have finished reading it is very important that you ask your child questions about what you have read as this is what will determine if they have understood what they have read. O The reading books your child brings home is at an appropriate level for them. O Once your child has read the book there are some questions at the back of the book to ask them to help them develop their comprehension skills. O Children read with a teacher every week in Guided Reading sessions. O Please visit the Library.
