2 The Joy of Grant Writing

3 Eligible grant applicants Teachers, educators, staff members, administrators of Dover Union Free School District Community groups and organizations that serve Dover students Community members interested in providing educational enrichment programs in the District

4 Grant Applications Projects support development of exciting and challenging programs focused on academic fields, athletics, cultural program and community services. May include programs, residency programs, visiting speakers, field trips and other enriching activities. Will range from $250 to $1,500 for the first several years Over the next five years, at least $5,000 in DEEP program grants will be awarded each year.

5 Grant Application Timeline Grant portal opens on January 4, 2016 Proposals are due by end of day on February 29, 2016 Grant awards announced in April 2016 Project may begin in May 2016 Projects may begin upon approval and must be completed by May of the following year. At the conclusion of the project, grantees are asked to submit a short summary of outcomes achieved through the project. Grantees may also be invited to share feedback on the process with the Advisory Board.

6 Grant Review Criteria Excellence: Is project/service of high quality? Is it the right time for the project? Involve qualified groups? Is it a creative endeavor? Impact: Potential impact of project (not number of people involved but rather quality of the impact). Ability: Is project well thought out? Appropriate timeline and budget? How does it connect or augment district curriculum ?

7 www.berkshiretaconic.org Submit the grant proposal online at: Suggestion: Don’t write the proposal online; prepare it separately and then and cut and paste sections as completed. However, you may save the proposal online as you write different sections. Be sure to upload final proposal (with attachments) by the end of day on February 29, 2016.

Attachments (uploaded to the grant portal) include: Include a letter of support from Superintendent Tierney Information on grant-related purchases Other supporting documentation that strengthens your project proposal Final Friendly Reminders: -Grant Proposals are due end of day February 29, 2016 -Reviews take place in March, 2016 -Announcements in April, 2016 -Projects must be completed by May, 2017
