Applying developmental assets within our programs and actions
The challenge: How do we start with ourselves and our own communities??? 31 Applying developmental assets within our programs and actions Take out blue sheets and respond to the first question. Then put it away!

32 Asset building is based on the awareness that it is people, not programs, that make a difference for kids.

Our “communities” (agencies, businesses, organizations, churches, schools) must be more than just places to visit and learn – comfortable places to be – they should be places to belong 33

34 You alone can’t build assets in this community; it’s everyone’s job to build assets. What is an asset builder?

Intentionality 35 We believe that children and youth will benefit tremendously when individuals and organizations commit to intentionally using an asset building framework as a central principle in guiding these areas: program organization, instruction and evaluation, all activities, community partnerships and support services. Beliefs and practices that limit and promote Asset Building How do these reinforce your beliefs? Share your perspective around the table

What do you see in an asset building environment?
Relationships, especially between adults and children and youth, that are mutually respectful, caring and genuine An environment in the community that encourages asset building Programs and practices that provide specific opportunities for asset building Follow up with stories at tables…categorize

The Importance of the Asset Development Framework
The Importance of the Asset Development Framework Asset rich kids: More likely to avoid high risk taking behaviours Asset rich kids: More likely to be successful in school and a service to the community High community pay off with positive profile for youth
