7. SINS COMMISSION OMISSION Things I do that I should not do.
Things I don’t do that I should do.
James 4:17 declares, "Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins." A sin of omission is a sin that is the result of not doing something God’s Word teaches that we should do.
Romans 7: He does what he doesn’t want to do and knows is wrong—the sin of commission—and he doesn’t do what he knows he should do and really wants to do—the sin of omission. Here is a picture of the new nature in conflict with the flesh in which it dwells.
(Luke 10:30-37). Jesus used this example to teach that we are to likewise help those in need. By doing so, he clearly communicated that it is sinful to avoid doing good, just as it is sinful to pursue what is evil.

Romans 1:28-32 – And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only the same but also approve of those practicing them. Galatians 5:19-21 – Now the works of the flesh are evident which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, out bursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissentions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him. 1 Corinthians 6: Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionist will inherit the Kingdom of God. Ephesians 4:31 – Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice.

Romans 7:18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

Pascal's Wager
In the seventeenth century the mathematician Blaise Pascal formulated his infamous pragmatic argument for belief in God in Pensées. The argument runs as follows:
If you erroneously believe in God, you lose nothing (assuming that death is the absolute end), whereas if you correctly believe in God, you gain everything (eternal bliss). But if you correctly disbelieve in God, you gain nothing (death ends all), whereas if you erroneously disbelieve in God, you lose everything (eternal damnation).
How should you bet? Regardless of any evidence for or against the existence of God, Pascal argued that failure to accept God's existence risks losing everything with no payoff on any count.

We think of sin as breaking the rules –
but Jesus sees the sin as us being bound!

Until we believe in Jesus as our Savior, there is nothing He can do to help us!

Baptists are known for believing in “Eternal Security,” or, “Once Saved, Always Saved.” More humorously it has been put, “Methodists believe in falling from grace, and Baptists practice it.” Also said, “Arminians know they have it (salvation), but they’re afraid they’re going to loose it. Calvinists know they can’t loose it, but they’re afraid they don’t have it.” In my humble opinion, most Baptists have it just right. We know we are saved, and we know we can’t loose it. There are good Christian folks who believe you can lose your salvation. I believe, however, the Bible teaches eternal security or, once saved always saved, for the following reasons. Note:  First, a quick explanation. I am referring to someone who has really, truly placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Just because someone says they are saved, does not mean they are saved. The Bible teaches there are those who falsely profess to be believers (Matthew 7:21-23; 1 John 2:19) Everlasting Life Cannot Be Lost. John 3:16 If it can be lost, then it is not everlasting. If you have it for a year, and then lose it, it is one year life, not everlasting life.

“Once Saved, Always Saved” Many Baptist groups hold to a doctrine rather similar to Calvinism’s P- Perseverance of the Saints, called “Once Saved, Always Saved” (hereafter OSAS). Essentially, many Baptists have taken the Calvinist notion of “perseverance of the saints” exclusively, omitting the rest of the TULIP belief system. The belief is that once you have been saved, no matter what you do, you will still be saved. OSAS is based on Romans 8:35-39 (discussed in Calvinism: P- Perseverance of the Saints), and verses like Acts 16:31: And they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.” Verses like these, which state that belief will lead to salvation, are used to say that salvation must come. Do the Scriptures teach this? The Scriptures do teach that we can be sure of our salvation as we walk in the light (1 John 1:7). Nevertheless, our salvation is dependent on our continued obedience to God and His Word, as He Himself has made evident in Matthew 10:22: “And ye shall be hated of all men for My name’s sake: but he that endures to the end, the same shall be saved.” The Scriptures do make it clear that we can lose our salvation, as seen in Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:26-31 in Calvinism: P- Perseverance of the Saints, and also in Hebrews 3:12-14 and 2 Peter 2:20-22: Take heed, brethren, lest haply there shall be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God: but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called To-day; lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin: for we are become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm unto the end. - See more at:

40. The “trouble” with the world is that this quote is backward!
Prayer, the act of talking to God. When said alone it is heard by no one else but you and your higher power, in our case our Father in Heaven. It can be the most life altering action you may experience. Not just any prayer, but the gut-wrenching broken-hearted prayer cried with all your body and soul because there is no one else and nowhere else to turn. In those darkest moments, when we are finally ready to surrender our will for His will, we meet our God and know our own true heart.

PRAYER should be your first line of defense or course of action – In Big and small things!

When life gives you more than you can “stand”, then it is a really good time to get on your knees.

44. Footprints in the Sand by Margaret Fishback Powers
One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. "Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.“

45. Lost and Found Nothing can be lost that is not owned by somebody.
For something to be “lost’ only means it has not yet been found.
The only things that are ever lost are things that have “value”. The more “value” something has, the greater the feelings of loss.
The “things” you value may not be the same things I value! Be careful when trying to provide “COMFORT” to someone who has had a loss.
There is always joy when something that was “lost” is found. (Luke 15 – Sheep – Coin – Son)

46. James 1:2-8 Trials and Temptations
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
