5 IV – How the Helper ministers to me at a deep level 1) He convicts me of sin page 119
John 16:7-9 7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me;

6 What are some signs of receiving the Holy Spirit?
Jesus answers: “He will convict the world of sin” Unless we know we are in sin, lost and condemned, there is no need to seek a savior! Romans 3:23 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Luke 13:3 Repent or Perish 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

7 SINS COMMISSION OMISSION Things I do that I should not do.
Things I don’t do that I should do. James 4:17 declares, "Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins." A sin of omission is a sin that is the result of not doing something God’s Word teaches that we should do. Romans 7: He does what he doesn’t want to do and knows is wrong—the sin of commission—and he doesn’t do what he knows he should do and really wants to do—the sin of omission. Here is a picture of the new nature in conflict with the flesh in which it dwells. (Luke 10:30-37). Jesus used this example to teach that we are to likewise help those in need. By doing so, he clearly communicated that it is sinful to avoid doing good, just as it is sinful to pursue what is evil.

Romans 1:28-32 – And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only the same but also approve of those practicing them. Galatians 5:19-21 – Now the works of the flesh are evident which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, out bursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissentions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

9 Some Sins Colossians 3:5-10 – Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth; fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness; which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him. 1 Corinthians 6: Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionist will inherit the Kingdom of God. Ephesians 4:31 – Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice.

10 The Biggest sin is…. “because they do not believe in me!
Disbelief and rejection of Jesus as the Christ! “because they do not believe in me! Romans 8:2-4 …2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.… Acts 13:39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. Romans 7:18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

11 Romans 5:6: For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Luke 19:90-10 Jesus and Zacchaeus …9And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham. 10"For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 1 Timothy 1:15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst.

12 According to the “world”
Belief in God is…. Foolish Superstition Waste of time Pascal's Wager In the seventeenth century the mathematician Blaise Pascal formulated his infamous pragmatic argument for belief in God in Pensées. The argument runs as follows: If you erroneously believe in God, you lose nothing (assuming that death is the absolute end), whereas if you correctly believe in God, you gain everything (eternal bliss). But if you correctly disbelieve in God, you gain nothing (death ends all), whereas if you erroneously disbelieve in God, you lose everything (eternal damnation). How should you bet? Regardless of any evidence for or against the existence of God, Pascal argued that failure to accept God's existence risks losing everything with no payoff on any count.

13 The People Convicted Acts 2:36-40 page 121
36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”

14 Acts 2:35-40 Repent and be Saved
35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’ 36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off— for all whom the Lord our God will call.” 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”

15 Doing what is best Just as children rebel against the knowledge and wisdom of their parents, “How blind we are to the fact that we as grownups are in an even more untenable position in relation to our heavenly Father” (Page 122) John 3:17 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him We think of sin as breaking the rules – but Jesus sees the sin as us being bound!

16 We all sin page 122 #3 Romans 3:23 1 John 1:8 John 8:34
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 1 John 1:8 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. John 8:34 34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

17 We are captive by sin page 123 #4
Luke 4:18 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,     because he has anointed me     to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners     and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, Page 123: “Until we see ourselves as bound in many specific areas and in need of freeing and saving, obviously we will have no need of the Savior.” Your chains must be broken if you are to be set free and live the Christian Life as God intended. Until we believe in Jesus as our Savior, there is nothing He can do to help us!

18 Steps to Salvation (A – B – C) (PAGE 123 #5)
A – Admit you’re a sinner B – Believe Jesus paid the penalty C – Confess your sins 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

19 4.1 Helpful Reading Acts 2:14-21 Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 “‘In the last days, God says,     I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy,     your young men will see visions,     your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women,     I will pour out my Spirit in those days,     and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the heavens above     and signs on the earth below,     blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness     and the moon to blood     before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls     on the name of the Lord will be saved.

20 Notes

21 IV – How the Helper ministers to me at a deep level 2) He values my personhood page 125
2 Corinthians 3:17 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Submitting to the Holy Spirit does not negate “Free Will” The Spirit will never force you to do anything! Satan wants us bound to Sin and Jesus (The Helper) wants to set us Free

22 Philippians 2:5-9 PAGE 126 #2 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

23 Free Will We have Free Will to submit or reject the Spirit (Obey or disobey? – You Decided !) Jesus works within us to Help others The “Spirit” while in us, will submit to our needs – thus risking HIS reputation! He will come to us and fill us only to the degree that we are willing to be filled! You can receive the Spirit at Salvation – but you must cultivate His power through a relationship Mark 10:21 (page 127 #2) 21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

24 Obey and be blessed Luke 5:4-8 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Matthew 4:19  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

25 Ephesians 4:25-32 page 128 #3 25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. 28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

26 Eternal Salvation or Free Will http://gulfcoastpastor. blogspot
Baptists are known for believing in “Eternal Security,” or, “Once Saved, Always Saved.” More humorously it has been put, “Methodists believe in falling from grace, and Baptists practice it.” Also said, “Arminians know they have it (salvation), but they’re afraid they’re going to loose it. Calvinists know they can’t loose it, but they’re afraid they don’t have it.” In my humble opinion, most Baptists have it just right. We know we are saved, and we know we can’t loose it. There are good Christian folks who believe you can lose your salvation. I believe, however, the Bible teaches eternal security or, once saved always saved, for the following reasons. Note:  First, a quick explanation. I am referring to someone who has really, truly placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Just because someone says they are saved, does not mean they are saved. The Bible teaches there are those who falsely profess to be believers (Matthew 7:21-23; 1 John 2:19) Everlasting Life Cannot Be Lost. John 3:16 If it can be lost, then it is not everlasting. If you have it for a year, and then lose it, it is one year life, not everlasting life.

27 John 10:26-30 Everlasting Life
26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

28 Eternal Life http://www. astudyofdenominations
“Once Saved, Always Saved” Many Baptist groups hold to a doctrine rather similar to Calvinism’s P- Perseverance of the Saints, called “Once Saved, Always Saved” (hereafter OSAS). Essentially, many Baptists have taken the Calvinist notion of “perseverance of the saints” exclusively, omitting the rest of the TULIP belief system. The belief is that once you have been saved, no matter what you do, you will still be saved. OSAS is based on Romans 8:35-39 (discussed in Calvinism: P- Perseverance of the Saints), and verses like Acts 16:31: And they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.” Verses like these, which state that belief will lead to salvation, are used to say that salvation must come. Do the Scriptures teach this? The Scriptures do teach that we can be sure of our salvation as we walk in the light (1 John 1:7). Nevertheless, our salvation is dependent on our continued obedience to God and His Word, as He Himself has made evident in Matthew 10:22: “And ye shall be hated of all men for My name’s sake: but he that endures to the end, the same shall be saved.” The Scriptures do make it clear that we can lose our salvation, as seen in Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:26-31 in Calvinism: P- Perseverance of the Saints, and also in Hebrews 3:12-14 and 2 Peter 2:20-22: Take heed, brethren, lest haply there shall be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God: but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called To-day; lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin: for we are become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm unto the end. - See more at:

29 4.2 Helpful Reading Matthew 19:16-22 The Rich and the Kingdom of God
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’ 20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

31 Cast all your cares upon Him
IV – How the Helper ministers to me at a deep level 3) He teaches me about tears page 130 Healing and Prayers Ezekiel 11:19 19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Unburden your heart Cast all your cares upon Him 1peter 5:7 Matthew 11:28 Psalm 55:25 John 16:33 Isaiah 41:10 Matthew 6:34

32 Don’t let your hearts become hard
Tears bring emotion – unashamed and unabashed Jesus is a person – A dear close person Hebrews 3:7-11 Warning Against Unbelief 7 So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, 8     do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion,     during the time of testing in the wilderness, 9 where your ancestors tested and tried me,     though for forty years they saw what I did. 10 That is why I was angry with that generation;     I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,     and they have not known my ways.’ 11 So I declared on oath in my anger,     ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”

33 Other verses about Harden Hearts http://www. openbible
Matthew 19:8 Hebrews 3:7-11 Psalm 95:58 Ephesians 4: Mark 3:5 Mark 8:17 Romans 2:1-5

34 Jesus Wept Luke 19:  As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. John 11:  “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. 35 Jesus wept. 36 Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”

35 Other reasons for tears
Not of the Spirit – but of the soul or emotion Tears of rage Tears of joy Tears of sorrow Tears of frustration Tears of self pity Tears of pain Tears for attention

36 Faith Healers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faith_healing
faith healing is in reference to the belief of some Christians that God heals people through the power of the Holy Spirit, often involving the laying on of hands. It is also called supernatural healing, divine healing, and miracle healing, among other things. In the Old Testament, Jehovah-Rapha, translated "I am the Lord your Physician" or "I am the Lord who heals you", is one of the seven redemptive names for Jehovah God. Healing in the Bible is often associated with the ministry of specific individuals including Elijah, Jesus and Paul. Kathryn Kuhlman Benny Hinn Oral Roberts Peter Popoff

37 4.3 Helpful Reading Romans 12:  Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Hebrews 3:7-19 (Go back to slide 28)

39 IV – How the Helper ministers to me at a deep level 4) He is my “Comforter” Page 135
Isaiah 66:13  As a mother comforts her child,     so will I comfort you;     and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” John 14:16  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—

40 The “trouble” with the world is that this quote is backward!
Prayer, the act of talking to God. When said alone it is heard by no one else but you and your higher power, in our case our Father in Heaven. It can be the most life altering action you may experience. Not just any prayer, but the gut-wrenching broken-hearted prayer cried with all your body and soul because there is no one else and nowhere else to turn. In those darkest moments, when we are finally ready to surrender our will for His will, we meet our God and know our own true heart. The “trouble” with the world is that this quote is backward! PRAYER should be your first line of defense or course of action – In Big and small things!

41 Other Comforter Verses
1 Corinthians 2:9-13 But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

42 Comfort and Power in the Spirit
Romans 8:1-39 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

43 Who do you call on or what do you when you are hurting?
Physical pain Vs. Emotional pain Sympathy and Pity “Natural Disasters” – Tornado, Earthquake, etc. What do you lean on (provides comfort and support) – what things are outside your control? Comfort – tenderness - mercy – compassion – (feminine) Strength - Courage – Brave - Wisdom – Reasoning – Empowering - (Masculine) When life gives you more than you can “stand”, then it is a really good time to get on your knees.

44 Footprints in the Sand by Margaret Fishback Powers
One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord. After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints. This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. "Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me." He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.“

45 Lost and Found Nothing can be lost that is not owned by somebody.
For something to be “lost’ only means it has not yet been found. The only things that are ever lost are things that have “value”. The more “value” something has, the greater the feelings of loss. The “things” you value may not be the same things I value! Be careful when trying to provide “COMFORT” to someone who has had a loss. There is always joy when something that was “lost” is found. (Luke 15 – Sheep – Coin – Son)

46 James 1:2-8 Trials and Temptations
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

47 4.4 Helpful Reading John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 16: “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

48 Notes

49 It is part of His Plan that His will be done on earth
IV – How the Helper ministers to me at a deep level 5) He teaches me to pray (I) page 140 Romans 8:26-27 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. If God is omnipotent and knows everything, why do we need to pry and ask? It is part of His Plan that His will be done on earth Luke 11:1 - Jesus’ Teaching on Prayer One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” Jesus often prayed for strength and wisdom and healings

50 Jesus Prays (Verses) 1. Mark 1:35 7. Luke 22:41-44 2. Matthew 6:9-13
9. John 11:41-42 10. John 12:27-28 11. Hebrews 5:7 12. John 17:1-26

51 Jesus Prays 1. Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 2. Matthew 6:9-13 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 3. Matthew 11:25-26 At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. 4. Matthew 14:23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone.

52 Jesus Prays 5. Luke 6:12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 6. Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.“ 7. Luke 22:41-44 He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. 8. Luke 23:34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

53 Jesus Prays 9. John 11:41-42 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.“ 10. John 12:27-28 "Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.“ 11. Hebrews 5:7 During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

54 Jesus Prays John 17:1-26 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. "I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name--the name you gave me--so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. "I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."

56 The Lord’s Prayer Pattern/Model Prayer
Before the giving of the Helper, the disciples had no one else to pray to except the Father! Praise Our Father – Holy God – Creator Purpose Agenda – Your Kingdom Come What is Your will Provision Supply our needs Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Pardon Forgiveness – Examine our lives – confess or sin Protection Help us – Natural and Spiritual Parting – Doxology – For the Kingdom, the power and the glory are Yours forever!

57 John 16:24 Jesus instructs his disciples that He is about to leave and another will come in His place. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. 1 John 2:1 – Christ is our advocate and defender  My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 1 John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

58 What the Helper does for us!
The Helper must create in us a basic desire to pray! He helps us focus on what we should pray for. The Helper shows us the desire at the heart of prayer. Show us what is getting in the way of our prayers: Self-seeking, self-control – resentments – unconfessed sins His fervor replaces our meekness

59 Eternal Healing Page 143: “We thought Doris’ physical problem had also been healed. Not so. As it turned out, the glory was our loving parting with Doris and her sendoff into the next life. Page 136 – Power and comfort of the Spirit in the time of passing. All around us are those caught in bondages, imprisoned in fears, hampered by disease to whom Jesus longs to bring His release and His joy. But, He waits on our prayers. He wants us to be a part of His work – See where God is and join Him.

10 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. 11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” 13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” 15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” 17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

Ephesians 1: I (Paul) pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength. 1 Peter 2:10  Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Ephesians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

62 God Has Blessed US We are not waiting to receive a gift or a blessing. The GIFT has been given for us to enjoy now. We don’t have to wait for “Death” to inherit the promise of the Father. We have full access to the power and riches of the Kingdom today! There is no need to pray for a change in circumstances or things we need but to praise God for what is there. (Open my eyes) page 146 Prayers should be for a movement of God, not for a shift or change in circumstances. When insight comes, then faith – “The substance of things not seen” will follow. (Hebrews 11:1)

63 Prayer is about revelation to what God is doing.
John 5:19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. Prayer is about revelation to what God is doing. We need to “see” what needs to be prayed for. The answer to the correct prayer has been given. Miracles are evidence of the Spirit revelation. Disease is never natural – Health is natural and normal.

64 4.6 Helpful Reading 2 Kings 6:14-23
14 Then he sent horses and chariots and a strong force there. They went by night and surrounded the city. 15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. 16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 As the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, “Strike this army with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness, as Elisha had asked. 19 Elisha told them, “This is not the road and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will lead you to the man you are looking for.” And he led them to Samaria. 20 After they entered the city, Elisha said, “Lord, open the eyes of these men so they can see.” Then the Lord opened their eyes and they looked, and there they were, inside Samaria. 21 When the king of Israel saw them, he asked Elisha, “Shall I kill them, my father? Shall I kill them?” 22 “Do not kill them,” he answered. “Would you kill those you have captured with your own sword or bow? Set food and water before them so that they may eat and drink and then go back to their master.” 23 So he prepared a great feast for them, and after they had finished eating and drinking, he sent them away, and they returned to their master. So the bands from Aram stopped raiding Israel’s territory.

65 His pledge is that we shall live forever with Him.
IV – How the Helper ministers to me at a deep level 7) He convinces me of eternal life page 151 Ephesians 1: And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. His pledge is that we shall live forever with Him. There was the total encounter of person to Person. There’s nothing here I can’t handle He knew my situation, my mind and thoughts Matthew 9:4, Luke 5:22, Acts 1:2

66 Matthew 9:4  Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?
Luke 5:22:  Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? Acts 1:24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen.

67 Isaiah 6:1-5 Isaiah’s Commission
6 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;     the whole earth is full of his glory.” 4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

68 Page 152: I can never doubt the reality of a life after this one
Page 152: I can never doubt the reality of a life after this one. But now I also understand how essential it is that our inner spirit, so deadened by sin, be touched by the only One who can bring us alive. For how can we enter the next life without our bodies until the faculties of our spiritual body are activated and brought alive? In what condition are our Spiritual bodies in heaven? We know there is no more crying, pain or sickness, but are we in Old bodies or Young bodies? – What form do we really have ? Will we really have a memory of the prior earthly life? – Good memories – Bad memories?

69 What will heaven be like?
“As we begin to live and walk in the Spirit, we find that each wonderful gift He gives us is a sample of that which will be multiplied a thousand fold in the life to come.” What will heaven be like? I can only Image!

70 4.7 Helpful Reading 1 Corinthians 15:42-50
42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man. 50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

72 How the Helper ministers to me at a deep level
End of Chapter 4 How the Helper ministers to me at a deep level Philippians 3:7-9 7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
