DISCERNMENT (Webster)
The power or faculty of the mind by which it distinguishes one thing from another; acuteness of judgment; power of perceiving differences of things or ideas; insight; acumen; as, the errors of youth often proceed from the want of discernment. Syn.—penetration, discrimination

How do we teach our children to be discerning and to exercise and exhibit discernment?

Can we protect our children from following after every “wind of doctrine?”

The one tried and true method of gaining and practicing discernment is through the Word of God, the Bible. True discernment comes as we examine and evaluate everything through Biblical Glasses.

This verse is when Jesus is about 12 years old!
LUKE 2:52 ”And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” Wisdom = Intellectual (Biblical knowledge applied) Stature = Physical (Maturity) Favor with God = Spiritual Favor with man = Social This verse is when Jesus is about 12 years old!

Which of these pursuits best describes you?
PASTOR JERRY ROSS ASKS: In what are you AND your family known to be “increasing?” Football, basketball, baseball, track, etc.? Boys, hairstyles, boys, shopping, boys, etc.? Mathematics, Chess, Science club, computers? Soul winning, academics, after-school-job, piano, sewing, Bible study, church, etc.? Sports, fast-food, car, girl-friend, TV, money, “My Space,” computer games, etc.? Which of these pursuits best describes you?

We must decide with conviction who establishes truth:
God or man?

What does God Himself say?

JOHN 18:37, 38 Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?

JOHN 17:17 17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

A very large part of establishing, maintaining and protecting freedom is by means of discernment.
Our country as a whole has lost its power of discernment as we have chosen the ways of the world and virtually departed from the ways of the Word, the Bible! Biblical discernment has all but disappeared from our country and we, as a country, are rapidly losing freedoms. We are in big trouble.

JOHN 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

GOD’S WILL FOR CHRISTIANS:
BE DISCIPLE-MAKERS! Matthew 28:19, 20

DISCIPLE-MAKING STARTS AT HOME
Are we sending our children out as missionaries or as mission fields? “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” 1 Peter 3:15 Can our children defend the faith?

ACCORDING TO JOSH McDOWELL:
We are witnessing “The Last Christian Generation.” Only 1/3 of “church-going” teenagers say the church will play a role in their future lives. According to pollster George Barna: 63% of teens do not believe Jesus is God’s Son. 60% believe all faiths teach equally valid truths. 51% do not believe Jesus rose from the dead. 66% do not believe Satan or the Holy Spirit exist.

93% of all youth have lied to a parent.
75% of Christian and non-Christian youth have cheated on a test. 66% of all youth have physically hurt someone. 70% of churched teens believe there is no absolute moral truth. [This is called “Moral Relativism.”] Barna research reports: 98% of professed born-again youth “…do believe in Christ, but they do not reflect Christ-like attitudes or actions.” Does Satan believe in Christ?

In other words, there is a “disconnect” between “knowing Truth” and “practicing Truth.”
John 3:21: “But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”

(published figures) Friends with Campus Crusade for Christ tell me, “If we don’t get the Christian kids within the first six weeks of their freshman year [of college], we’ve lost them to the competing worldviews.” How do we lose them?

WE CANNOT DEFEND THE FAITH!
Where did Cain get his wife? How did Noah get all the animals on the ark? Aren’t Christians really polytheists? Wasn’t the Flood of Noah a local flood? Aren’t the days of Genesis long periods of time Hasn’t science proven the universe is billions of years old? Isn’t starlight millions of years old? Didn’t dinosaurs go extinct 60 M. years ago?

It is not just a lack of ability to defend The Faith in the early chapters of Genesis, but the average “Christian” family cannot seem to discern the penetration of Satan’s world system into every area of life and even “Christian” culture.

As Christians, everything we do and think and say should be in the power of the Holy spirit within the framework of God’s word for the glory and praise of our great God and Savior, Lord Jesus Christ.

No matter what the cost, the consequence, or the circumstance, we obey God’s word, the Bible in His power and for His glory. This is living by faith!

If we call ourselves Christians everything we are and do and think should be biblical. The Bible, God’s Word, should be our guide in everything. Our actions Our responses Our friends Our music Our clothes Our business practices Our entertainment Our family commitments Etc., etc., etc….

Lesser shades of darkness do not expose the darkness!

WHAT IS A “FOOLISH” YOUTH?
“[He] may be a teenager who has attended church for years. He is there because his parents make him come. He will daydream during most of the lesson, and the part that he does hear, he has already made up his mind to ignore. He is foolish.” Jerry L. Ross, The Teenage Years of Jesus Christ, (ISBN ) p. 8

Let us never forget that our God is sovereign!
Psalm 115:1-3 1Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake. 2Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? 3But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

God created the family and He can make it work because nothing is impossible for Him. Jeremiah 32:17 17Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.

Where is our discernment?
How can it be that millions of people worldwide, including many “church-going Christians” take the words and recommendations of Oprah Winfrey as the gospel truth? Where is our discernment?

Do we make time to watch Oprah Winfrey, or the soap operas or a four hour sports event, but do not have time to read our Bibles or to pray or to seek ministry opportunities? If we call ourselves Christians and, on average, do not have time for the things that our Lord says are important, then we do not have time for Oprah or ballgames!

Oprah has said publically that she was sitting in church when she was a young lady and the preacher read a Scripture that said that the God of the Bible is a “jealous God.” (He IS jealous for our love and affection.) At that point, apparently, Oprah decided that she no longer wanted anything to do with that God of the Bible.

But Oprah does a lot of good. She supports that orphanage in Africa

She gives away millions of dollars to needy people, etc. Yes, Oprah should be commended for these acts of philanthropy, but that does not mean that she is correct in her worldview and its religious base. Do we believe the word of Oprah or of God?

Strange as it appears, Oprah is promoting and teaching “A Course in Miracles” on her XM radio channel. She wants nothing to do with the “jealous God” of the Bible, but Dr. Helen Schucman, as an atheist psychology professor at Columbia University, claimed that an apparition (demon=ascended master, spirit guide) who called himself Jesus Christ appeared to her and dictated (channelled) “A Course in Miracles”, thoughts and advice for living the miraculous life for 365 days of the year. The God of the Bible, JESUS CHRIST, is not dictating new Scripture to an atheist psychology professor!

Beginning January 1, 2008, "Oprah & Friends“ offered a year-long course on the New Age teachings of A Course in Miracles. A lesson a day throughout the year will completely cover the 365 lessons from the Course in Miracles "Workbook." For example, Lesson #29 asks you to go through your day affirming that "God is in everything I see." Lesson #61 tells each person to repeat the affirmation "I am the light of the world." Lesson #70 teaches the student to say and believe "My salvation comes from me." By the end of the year, "Oprah & Friends" listeners will have completed all of the lessons laid out in the Course in Miracles Workbook. Those who finish the Course will have a wholly redefined spiritual mindset a New Age worldview that includes the belief that there is no sin, no evil, no devil, and that God is "in" everyone and everything.

OPRAH AND ECKHART TOLLE
Oprah promotes New Age writer and spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle. Tolle’s first book (The Power of Now) sold millions because of Oprah’s endorsement of Tolle and his religious beliefs and writings. Because of Oprah’s endorsement the largely unknown Tolle was catapulted to #1 on the New York Times Bestselling list.

A NEW EARTH: AWAKENING TO YOUR LIFE’S PURPOSE by ECKHART TOLLE
Tolle footnotes Revelation 21:1 and Isaiah 65:17 and writes the following: “The inspiration for the title of this book came from a Bible prophecy that seems more applicable now than at any other time in human history. It occurs in both the Old and the New Testament and speaks of the collapse of the existing world order and the arising of “a new heaven and a new earth.’”

A NEW EARTH CONTINUES: “We need to understand here that heaven is not a location but refers to the inner realm of consciousness. This is the esoteric meaning of the word, and this is also its meaning in the teachings of Jesus. Earth, on the other hand, is the outer manifestation in form, which is always a reflection of the inner. Collective human consciousness and life on our planet are intrinsically connected.” (page 23)

A NEW EARTH CONTINUES: “A new heaven” is the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness, and “a new earth” is its reflection in the physical realm. (page 23) David Spangler deals with this in his Emergence of the Mystical which was “transchanneled” (Spangler is the “Medium”) to him by ascended master [demon] “John.”

Please keep in mind that Oprah Winfrey is endorsing and promoting these New Age religious beliefs.

Matthew 24:23-25 Lord Jesus said,
“Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25Behold, I have told you before.”

What does Isaiah 65:17 and Revelation 21:1 say and really mean in contrast to Eckhart Tolle’s misleading interpretation?

Isaiah 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Revelation 21:1-3 1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

The New Heaven and the New Earth are just as real as this present heaven and earth. Real people who have received the crucified and bodily resurrected Lord Jesus Christ as their savior will dwell in this, the third heaven and earth system, for eternity. [1st earth was destroyed during the Flood Judgment of Noah’s day, this, the 2nd and present heaven and earth system, will be destroyed by fire after Christ’s earthly kingdom, and then the New Heaven and New Earth will be revealed for our eternal dwelling place. There will be no more tears and no more death. Heaven and earth are real places with real people for eternity.]

Some, however, grew feathers and wings and turned into birds, thus defying the force of gravity that held them for so long. They didn’t become better at crawling of walking, but transcended crawling and walking entirely.”

More from A New Earth: [Page 275] “Being at one with what is doesn’t mean you no longer initiate change or become incapable of taking action. But the motivation to take action comes from a deeper level, not from egoic wanting or fearing. What does The Secret say and teach that generates so much excitement and vigorous approval among its readers?

WHAT IS THE HUMAN “ROOT” OF THE SECRET?
In the early pages of The Secret Rhonda Byrne acknowledges several people who were inspirational to her understanding and writing of The Secret.

It appears that Esther Hicks is a medium or transchanneller for an entity (demon) named Abraham. She is the amanuensis (secretary) for Abraham. “According to Hicks, Abraham is an entity, or more accurately, a collection of several nonphysical entities who have been in contact with her for over two decades.” The Truth Behind the Secret, p. 28

“Thoughts become things” is a simple way of describing “The Law of Attraction.” If you think bad thoughts, bad things will come. If you think good thoughts, good things will come. This is nothing new! Positive Mental Attitude was taught by Andrew Carnegie to Napoleon Hill to Earl Nightingale and Robert Schuller (Possibility Thinking, create your own reality). There is a very important reason why humans are not and cannot be little gods as The Secret teaches.
The Secret teaches a wrong view of man. Satan wants us to think that we are good and we are gods. If we are gods we are not sinners. If we are not sinners we do not need a Savior. If we do not realize our sinfulness and need for a Savior we are on the fast track to an eternity separated from the one true God in Hell.

Demonic Literature Teaches: “Every Day in Every Way You are Getting Better and Better!!”
Jesus said, “That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness; All these evil things come from within and defile the man Mark 7:20-23

So the Lord Jesus, The Creator (see John 1; Colossians 1; Hebrews 1), disagrees with Rhonda Byrne’s idea that man is good, man is a god. The Creator says that man is evil from the inside out. Out of the heart proceeds the evil!

RHONDA BYRNE QUOTES MICHAEL BERNARD BECKWITH:
“And you can break yourself free from your hereditary patterns, cultural codes, social beliefs, and prove once and for all that the power within you is greater than the power within the world.” The Secret, p. 167

When asked if he and his followers are Christian, Beckwith says:

WORLDVIEW GLASSES DETERMINE CONCLUSIONS
Our worldview ideas have certain inherent consequences. Our assumptions determine our conclusions.

Our Biblical Christian worldview, if learned and practiced, gives us the discernment to spot these devilishly attractive counterfeits. The ideas of The Secret, which Oprah promotes, have certain consequences: 1. You will not believe in the one true God of the Bible 2. You will come to believe that you are God.

THE SECRET SAYS: [W]ouldn’t it be a good idea to begin to use the two most powerful words, I AM, to your advantage? How about, “I AM receiving every good thing. I AM happy. I AM abundant. Eckhart Tolle, also promoted by New Age priestess, Oprah, is more specific:
[Page 79] “The only thing that ultimately matters is this: Can I sense my essential Beingness, the I Am, in the background of my life at all times? To be more accurate, can I sense the I Am that I Am at this moment? Can I sense my essential identity as consciousness itself? Or am I losing myself in what happens, losing myself in the mind, in the world?

There is only one I AM and He is the God of the Bible

I AM introduces Himself in Genesis 1:1 in the plural (God is “Elohim”, a Hebrew plural noun) and in the singular (the verb created is a 3rd person singular verb in the Hebrew text). “In the beginning God created….”

According to the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus Christ is Messiah God, He is Jehovah God.
Lord Jesus is Creator of all. This gives Him and Him alone the right and the authority to be the Savior (Redeemer) of all! It was the blood of Jesus, the Creator, that was shed for the remission (forgiveness) of the sins of His creation, the race of Adam.

JOHN 10:33 “The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.” MATTHEW 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” The Jews attempted to stone Jesus because He was God in the flesh and they knew it. God is God. He is the Great I AM and there is no other.
With all respect to Rhonda Byrne, we are not God, nor are we “gods”, nor are we I AM. God is God. He is the Great I AM and there is no other.

In a 2003 poll conducted by German environmental researchers Dennis Bray and Hans von Storch, two-thirds of more than 530 climate scientists from 27 countries surveyed did not believe that "the current state of scientific knowledge is developed well enough to allow for a reasonable assessment of the effects of greenhouse gases." About half of those polled stated that the science of climate change was not sufficiently settled to pass the issue over to policymakers at all.

A CASE IN POINT: Al Gore likes to point out that the Uppsala glacier of Patagonia is retreating. But “Just fifty kilometers away from Uppsala is Moreno, which is growing, and thereby calving. Claims of Moreno’s retreat are typically danced around without brazenly lying about it “melting,” and are pure fabrication and illustrative of the lengths to which environmentalists go to dishonestly frighten people.” Christopher Horner, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism, D.C.:Regenery Pubs., 2007, P. 223.

Horner continues: Other much larger glaciers nearby are advancing without the pleasure of angst-ridden eco-tourists and pencil-gnawing journalists. In fact, “While in the same region in Patagonia, either in the Argentinean or Chilean sides, there are small glaciers on retreat, there are other medium sized glaciers in stable condition, and really big glaciers growing at record speed and volume.” [ For example, South America’s largest glacier, Pio XI, is growing very quickly. The greens and media just missed it, that’s all, another case of not seeing the forest for being busy hugging trees. (Horner, p. 224)

According the Bible, the God of the Bible created everything in six days and it was “very good.” (Genesis 1:31) It was also a warm climate with mild seasons (Adam and Eve were both naked in the Garden of Eden=warm and no clothing needed). (Genesis 2:25)

ON THIS EARLY EARTH: It did not rain, “…for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth,… 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground” (Genesis 2:5-6). Man and animal ate vegetation (Genesis 1:29, 30). There were mild seasons (Genesis 1:14). There was probably one land mass with 4 rivers flowing out of the one river (Genesis 2:10-15). The earth was pole to pole greenhouse warm (giant trees and palm tree fossils in Alaska, broad leaf ferns in the Antarctica, warm temp animals frozen solid in New Siberian Islands, but today willows 1”).

Earlier I mentioned that at least years are left to earth history before God burns it all up. How can such a statement be made?

Starting today more than 1000 years remain in earth history!
The Premillennial Escatological theological position believes that the Creator Himself, the Lord Jesus Christ, (see in the Bible John 1; Colossians 1; Hebrews 1) will leave His throne in heaven to come to rule on earth from Jerusalem in the last days before He destroys earth and all it contains by fire. While He reigns the curse will be removed and the earth will bring forth its increase as not seen since the days of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

REVELATION 20:1-8 1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. During this unique 1000 year reign of Creator Jesus (John 1; Colossians 1; Hebrews 1) Who alone is the Messiah and Savior of mankind (Isaiah 53; Psalm 22; John 3; Romans 3:23-24, 6:23, 5:8; 10:9-13; 1 John 5:10-13; Ephesians 2:8-10), the curse caused by the sin of Adam which brought disease, decay and death to planet earth (Romans 5:12, 1 Corinthians 15:20-22) will be removed (Acts 3:18-21). The fear between man and beast initiated in Genesis 9:1-5 will be removed and life-spans greatly increased for man and beast.

Jesus will rule for 1000 years during which time the curse on earth is removed.

Hello!

Global warming is a political strategy of Socialists.
Strategy: Create a life-threatening global crisis such as global warming. Advertise the crisis repeatedly. (Gore in schools,etc.) Gain a critical mass of people. (using media) Pass laws that restrict industry and freedom. Increase central government control and taxes. Confiscate private property Abolish the free-market economic system. Establish a two class civilization: The Elites And everyone else (slaves with no rights?).

= 48 years. The planes were 263 feet below the surface. That’s about 5.5 feet/year. 10,000’ ÷ 5.5’ = 1824 years. Deeper ice is pressed into finer layers so 4400 years to accumulate the ice at the poles is no problem! Note - The planes do not sink in the ice due to pressure on the ice. Planes are nose heavy and would not be horizontal if they sank.

This article still calls these ice core lines annual layers when they are from warm and cold spells.

God created all things in heaven and earth, they all belong to God, He is head over all of it, and does whatever He pleases with it. I Chronicles 29:11; Job 41:11;, 135:6; Proverbs 16:4; John 3:27; Revelation 4:11, 19:6 Psalm 115:3: “But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.”

A single volcano spews more "greenhouse gasses" into the atmosphere than mankind has produced since the industrial revolution. That level of volcanic pollution, over which man has no control whatsoever, can be compared to the immensity of our sin, inherited from Adam (Isaiah 64:6), which we can by no means reverse or resolve on our own.

With this backdrop in mind, just as it is impossible to reverse the pollution produced by a volcano and its impact on any so-called "global warming" by switching to a new type of light bulb, so it is impossible to earn our way into heaven by any works of righteousness which we have done, however many or sincere (Titus 3:4-7; Ephesians 2:8-10).
