Good Evening, Parents. Thank you for taking time off to attend this Parent Dialogue Session. The slides for this evening presentation will be uploaded onto our website and be made available to you from next week. Also present tonight are our Principal, Mdm Foo, Vice Principals, Mrs Pawa, Mrs Boey Lim and Mdm Tham, teachers and KP.

The Principal will address us, who will share with us on the school focus and direction. Next we will update you on the school programmes and curriculum we had on preparing our students for PSLE. After which there will be a Q and A session to address your concerns and to answer any queries that you may have. We will also be addressing in our presentation some of the concerns that you have raised during the e-registration. Other concerns that are specific to individual classes will be addressed by the teachers when you meet up with them after the presentation. We would like to inform that there will be a separate Meet The Parents Session at the end of this term on the last day of school for the parents…an opportunity for parents to discuss with the form teacher in detail on the progress and issues concerning each individual pupils.

3 Principal’s Address Our Principal, Mdm Foo will now share with us…
Welcome to the P6 Parents Dialogue Session. The rescheduling of date for tonight’s session was primarily to allow the teachers the space and time to understand our pupils better. It also allows our pupils to settle in for the new level and with the CA1 results, we can be more focus in our update on areas and aspects we are working on.

Strategic Partnership Chongfu’s Torch: Visual Representation of Strategic Map Strategic Partnership Let me first introduce the Chongfu’s torch, which was conceptualised towards the end of last year to give a visual representation of our strategic Map. The torch serves as a compass to chart strategic directions to move the school to next level. The flame on top shows the 4 C2015 student outcomes mapped out by MOE. We want our pupils to possess the attributes of – a Confident Person, Self-directed Learner, a concerned citizen and an active contributor. Our vision ‘A community of thinkers who are patriotic, gracious and global in outlook’, spells out clearly what we want our Chongfu pupil to be. and, mission ‘To develop our pupils in five core areas, namely moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetics are aligned to the C2015 student outcomes. The school vision A Chongfu pupil is a thinker who is patriotic, gracious and has a global outlook. To stretch our pupils’ learning potential, we have the High Ability Learning Programme. the firm grip on the torch symbolising our unyielding beliefs that the five strategic thrusts, together with a gracious culture in Chongfu, will propel us to achieve desired outcomes of education. And bonding time with pupils Form and co form teachers for this strategic level to ensure a smooth transition for our pupils as they proceed through the various level in their primary education Other Motivational Elements – We get them to dream and aspire for a Secondary School they wish to go to after PSLE. Cleanest Class Use your hands Food & Toy Donation Drive SWAMI Home Visit CIP for MINDS Give a Card Project (KK Hospital) SWAMI Home – VIA project To allow pupils to possess skills, knowledge, values and attitudes to be gracious individuals To understand the duties and responsibilities of a member of the larger community Give a Card Project , our P6 pupils will create activity based cards for children who are long term patients of KK children’s Hospital as part of our VIA project. We want to inculcate care in them for children who may not be well). Last year, our pupils created cards for children in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Our community partners found it well received. We also engaged them as a caring and concerned citizens by getting them to host pupils from Woodland Garden School for a day in the Chongfu Immersion Programme for MINDs (CIP) as they serve as school ambassadors, empathize, care and help guide our guests through a one-day in school.

(24th & 25th Jun) TIE Trip National Education Show (July) Project Work Learning Journey Camp iNspire – Motivation Camp (2nd & 3rd Jun) Etiquette Course 1-day Overseas Trip For the P5, they will be experiencing a 2 day 1 night camp held at MOE Dairy Farm Adventure Centre. The objectives are to train our pupils to be resilient and independent. Through adrenaline-pumping outdoor activities such as Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Flying Fox and the Challenge Ropes, pupils learn to rough it out, gain self-confidence and awareness by overcoming their fears and obstacles. We would like to take this opportunity to seek your support as parents to help and encourage our children to actively participate in our camp programme so as to help us achieve these objectives for them.

Leadership GRACIOUSLY Camp iNspire Learning Focus Team Bonding & Decision Making Resilience & Sportsmanship Independence Camp iNspire is an outdoor education and adventure learning programme for the development of healthy, active and confident students. A progressive approach is adopted to enable students to experience camp life in different settings starting from within school to beyond school and culminating in an overseas experience for P6 students after the PSLE. CampiNspire, a school wide programme, is an outdoor education and adventure learning programme for the development of healthy, active and confident students that is aligned with the 21st century competencies to help students to emerge stronger both mentally and physically. The P1-P6 camp programme helps students acquire new skills and gives a sense of adventure to develop the tenacity to overcome challenges as a team and broaden their perspectives beyond the classroom. These camps take students out of the classroom with given hands-on experiences as they learn to adapt to a different environment, out of their comfort zone. Students are challenged by choice and this gives rise to opportunities for them to root for one another. The activities also allow our students to think on their feet, make decisions to overcome challenges and situations The objectives of the programme are to promote physical fitness, self-confidence, self-reliance, teamwork and leadership through a series of well-planned and challenging experiences. Activities conducted at each level focuses on different aspects of character development and are mapped to the school values GRACIOUSLY. ] In 2014, the programme for the lower primary block was designed and executed by teachers who are in a better position to help students in character development. Ways to promote loving Singapore more What makes us Singaporean? Encourage deeper understanding of Singapore & her identity Develop self-directed inquiry and lifelong learning. Emphasis is on the student’s learning process. e introduced to help students see the interconnectedness of their learning across different subjects. From Primary 3 onwards, our children are exposed to Project Work which they will be collaborating with their peers. The emphasis of PW is on the pupils’ learning process.

Could you share the selection criteria for Internationalisation Programme? P5 Internationalisation Programme Cultural exchange Promote global outlook Our P5 pupils traditionally will go on internationalisation programme. We hope parents will give us your support when your child is selected for any of these trips. Timing of the trips - end of Term 2 in May after their SA1 exams, with the BiCEP trip for our BiCEP pupils on the 10th week. It is a cultural Immersion Trip, not a trip for sightseeing. Objective: To create opportunities for our pupils to be exposed to a different culture To Enable them to live and learn in a culturally different school setting and to allow them to interact with their peers from a different nationality

How would Chongfu help the students cope with the coming PSLE? Academic Excellence & Learning Support P5 P6 Structured remedial Recommendation for subjects offered for PSLE – SBB Option External Competitions Friends of Chongfu Parent Support for Math Self-directed Online Learning Holiday Supplementary Class HUG Programme P5 is the level which we will start our preparation for the children for 2014 PSLE. To support our pupils in their learning, we will provide remediation help for our targeted pupils. We also have enrichment programme to cater to pupils who are more advanced in their learning and who need to be challenged and stretched. Stretched goal to motivate and inspire our pupils in their learning. With close monitoring of pupils’ progress and learning through termly results analysis performed by the teachers and shared with the pupils as to whether they have achieved their targets and areas for improvement. We constantly monitor our pupils’ progress for underachievers so as to implement intervention measures promptly. Competitions outside of school and at national level – to provide the platform for exposure for our pupils. This is also relevant and useful for DSA.

The pupils need to demonstrate consistency in completing their daily assignments and homework and possess a good attitude towards learning

25 PSLE Registration • Students’ subject combinations
The school will register our P6 students for PSLE from 9 March to 27 March 2015 • Students’ subject combinations (Foundation and/or Standard) take into consideration their respective levels of mastery of content knowledge and skills • Students are therefore strongly discouraged from changing their subject combinations after PSLE registration

30 Direct School Admission – Secondary (DSA-Sec) 2015
Please provide the details of DSA application procedures and timeline. Direct School Admission – Secondary (DSA-Sec) 2015 More information on DSA. It is an exercise introduced by MOE since 2004 to promote holistic education and provide students an opportunity to demonstrate a more diverse range of achievements and talents in seeking admission to a secondary school. The selection by the participating secondary schools for admission to Secondary One will be based on their achievements and talents before the PSLE results are released.

The 3 stages of DSA-Sec are: Selection Stage (May to August) Tests /camps /interviews and outcome of selection Exercise School Preference Stage (October) If selected, student submits preference for up to 3 DSA schools Results Release Stage (November) Student collects result of DSA school allocated together with PSLE results 3 stages of DSA-Sec exercise Selection – short listed students goes for selection tests/camps or intereview at the DSA-Ssc school(s). Students will receive outcome of application from the school(s) he / she has applied to (those on confirmed or waiting list or rejected will be notified by August. Stage 2 – exercising of school preference stage, in October. This is when students are notified of the “Confirmed” Offers or who have been put on the “Waiting List”, they will receive a School Preference Form through their primary schools. On receiving this form, parents can indicate their child’s school preference for up to 3 schools in the Form. The last stage is the results release stage, in November. Parents / students will be informed together with their PSLE results. Students who are not successfully in the DSA exercise will participate in the Secondary One Posting Exercise.

34 DSA-Sec Exercise Think carefully before accepting a Confirmed Offer or Waiting List Once your child has exercised his/ her school preference, and is accepted, he/ she will not be allowed to make any school selection in the centralised S1 Posting Exercise, regardless of how well he/ she may have performed in the PSLE. As we do not want to subject our students to too many interviews and hence demoralising effect if they failed to get through the interviews. Which might be counter productive. Try not to subject them to many interviews, if none go thro will deal another blow to the child – demoralising effect, take care of the ‘hope’ – counter productive effect on child’s confidence – esp taking PSLE. Not more than 3 schools, sit many proficiency exam, interview, June holiday will be burned.

39 Factors to Consider when making an option
Make your choices wisely Posting is done based on aggregate score first, choose schools that are comparable to your child’s academic ability Choose schools that are a good ‘fit’ for your child (strengths, interests, disposition) Consider –school culture –school niches and programmes –school’s PSLE cut-off point Admission based on demand and places available • Last student to get in= his/her aggregate score becomes the school’s Cut-off Point As you can see, posting is primarily dependent on the pupil’s PSLE aggregate score. Hence it is most important to choose schools whose academic standard is comparable to the child’s ability. For example, if a child is expected to get a PSLE aggregate of 200, there is no point in choosing 6 schools whose cut-off in previous years are in the range of 240 or The pupil is not likely to be admitted into these schools and the 6 choices are in fact ‘wasted’. Because the 1st option is made before the PSLE result is known, it will be good to speak to the teachers to arrive at an estimate of the pupil’s likely PSLE score when he eventually sits for his PSLE. Once the parents have a gauge of the likely PSLE scores of their children, then they are in a better position to choose secondary schools, based on the secondary school’s cut-off in the previous year. The 6 choices should reflect a spread of academic standard, just in case the pupil’s PSLE result turns out to be better than expected, or worse than expected.
