2 Touch Points A touch point is a “dot” or “dots” on a coin
Each touch point is worth 5 cents Each type of coin has a different number of touch points depending on how much that coin is worth We always count by 5’s when we are using touch points on the coins

3 Nickel A nickel is worth 5¢ We say: “5¢” A nickel has 1 touch point 5
 This is a nickel We say: “5¢” A nickel has 1 touch point

4 Dime A dime is worth 10¢ We say: “5¢, 10¢” A dime has 2 touch points 5
 This is a dime 5 10 We say: “5¢, 10¢” A dime has 2 touch points

5 Quarter A quarter is worth 25¢ We say: “5¢, 10¢, 15¢, 20¢, 25¢”
 This is a quarter 25 15 5 20 We say: “5¢, 10¢, 15¢, 20¢, 25¢” A quarter has 5 touch points

6 Penny A penny is worth 1¢ This is a penny.
A penny does not have any touch points because it is less than 5 ¢ After you count all of your touch points you must remember to count any pennies!

7 Guided Practice! The answer is: 15¢
Count the touch points by 5 and check your answer: 5 5 5 We say, “5¢, 10¢, 15¢” The answer is: 15¢

Count the touch points by 5 and check your answer: 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 We say, “5¢, 10¢, 15¢, 20¢, 25¢, 30¢, 35¢, 40¢ ” The answer is: 40¢
