2 Types of schools 20 weeks – 3 years old baby: crèche
4 – 6 years old child: nursery school 7 – 12 years old: primary school (2 stages) 13-15 years old: Gymnasium (lower secondary school) 16 – 17/18/19: secondary schools, some finish with Matura exam after the Matura exam: higher education schools

3 Pre-primary education
This educational level concerns children from 3 to 6 years of age. Six-year-old children are obliged to complete a year of preparation for primary education (under municipal responsibility) called “0 grade”. The classes are attached either to kindergartens or primary-schools.

6 Marks We have marks from 1 to (is insufficient) 2 (is poor) 3 (is sufficient) 4 (is good) 5 (is very good) 6 (is excellent) 1 is the failing grade, and 6 means that the student exceeded the expectations. In the first stages of primary school (I – III classes) there are no marks. The teachers write descriptions of their pupils’ abilities.  

7 Subjects The main components taught are: Polish Language,
Social and Natural Environment, Mathematics, Crafts and Technology, Art and Music, Foreign Language ICT Religious studies Physical Education.

8 Regional education In our school there is a great focus on regional education. The aim of the regional education in the didactic and educational process is to create the feeling of students’ own regional identities. Our pupils are quite successful in the regional contests.

9 „Green school” - open air learning
Our ten-year-old pupils (3rd year) go to the seaside for two weeks where they learn and play.

A gymnasium is a type of school providing lower secondary education. In Poland pupils attend gymnasium at the age of 13 –16 and after passing the final exam they go to liceum (grammar school).

14 Exams At the end of the primary school (12 years old) so called „Sprawdzian” At the end of the Gymnasium (15 years old) so called „Egzamin gimnazjalny”, important in terms of enrollment to some secondary schools At the end of some secondary schools (18-19 years old) so called „Matura” or „maturity exam”, important in terms of enrollment to higher education schools

19 Our school is 175 years old!   A brick school was built in Studzienice in 1837. Upper Silesia was part of Prussia at that time.
