Love One Another # John 4:7-5:5 Message 4 in our series on The Three Epistles of John.

2. John’s Three Tests
Doctrinal test – Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God (3:23; 5.5), the Christ come in the flesh (4:2)?
2. Social test – Do you love one another?
Are you living a life of love? (4:7,8)
Moral test – Are you obeying the
commandments of God? (1:5,6)

3. “Love one another” – The Social Test
v.7 Dear friends, let us love one another for
love comes from God.
v.11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also
ought to love one another.
v.12 If we love one another, God lives in us.
v.21 Whoever loves God must also love one
another.

4. Why should I love others?
The Command of Jesus is sufficient persuasion to love one another. 1 Jn 2:7,8
2. The Example of Jesus is the supreme inspiration to love one another Jn 3:16ff
3. The Heart of God is the abiding motivation to love one another Jn 4:7-12

5. 1 John 4:7-12 1. God’s love originates in Himself (v.7,8)
v.7 Love comes from God – He is the very source of love.
v.8 God is love – He is the every essence of love.
2. God’s love was manifested in His Son (v.9,10)
v.9 God showed His love among us … He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. – His love is active and life-giving
v.10 He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. – His love is forgiving
3. God’s love is perfected in His people (v.11,12)
v.11 God so loved us - His love is deep and strong
v.12 No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us

6. Take-out
In the light of Jesus’ command and example, and God’s continuing heart of love to me, why do I find it hard to love certain people?
2. To whom does God want me to show love today? This Christmas season? All year long?
3. Will you review your story of God’s love and forgiveness? Will you share it with someone who needs the love of Christ?
