21 Of Equal Importance… It is important to have a serious and open discussion about your postsecondary educational and career goals. A high school student’s social and emotional maturity can often be the major determinant of success as a Dual Credit Enrollment student.

23 What Is The Procedure? Register/Take S.A.T. or A.C.T.
See your BHS counselor Complete Declaration of Intent form, and turn it in to Counseling Office Apply for admission to college Check application deadlines

Registration begins Feb Register for 6 BHS classes BHS will make schedule changes in August to accommodate college classes Letter of acceptance required! College schedule required!

26 What is the ACCEL Program?
It is a collaborative effort between GDOE and the Board of Regents whereby high school students take academic college courses to receive both high school credit and postsecondary credit. The program is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (including the funding process).

27 ACCEL-award Students attending public institutions receive
tuition, HOPE-approved mandatory fees, and a book allowance of $150 per semester (6+ hrs = full book allowance; 1 to 5 hrs = half book allowance). Students attending private institutions receive up to $3,000 per academic year for full-time enrollment (or a pro-rated amount for less than full-time attendance).

28 THE ACCEL PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
Students must be classified as a legal resident of Georgia. Students must meet citizenship requirements. Students must meet Selective Service Registration requirements. Students must be in compliance with Georgia’s Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990. Students must meet the postsecondary school’s admissions requirements.

29 REQUIREMENTS FOR GEORGIA PERIMETER COLLEGE
GPA requirement – 3.0 core gpa SAT minimum scores – Critical Reading 530/ Math 440 ACT minimum scores – English 23/Math 18/ Composite 20 530 SAT or 22 ACT Math score is required for students taking fourth year of Math CAUTION: No Gwinnett Location

30 REQUIREMENTS FOR GAINESVILLE COLLEGE
GPA requirement – 3.0 core gpa SAT minimum scores – Critical Reading 480/ Math 460 ACT minimum scores –English 20/Math If taking 4th year of LA and Math – 530 V, M (SAT) or 24E, 22 M (ACT)

31 GPA Requirement – 3.5 Core GPA
Requirements for Middle Georgia College – GAMES (Georgia Academy of Aviation, Math, Engineering and Science) GPA Requirement – 3.5 Core GPA ► SAT Minimum – Math 560/Critical Reading 530 ► ACT Minimum – Math 24, English 23, Composite 24

32 REQUIREMENTS FOR WEST GEORGIA COLLEGE – ADVANCED ACADEMY
GPA Requirement – 3.5 Core GPA ► SAT Minimum – Math 530/Critical Reading 580 Composite 1150 ► ACT Minimum – Math 22, English 25, Composite 25

33 GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE
GPA Requirement – 3.0 Core GPA ► SAT Minimum – Math 460/Critical Reading 480 Composite 970 (CR+M) ► ACT Minimum – Math 19, English 21, Composite 20

34 ACCEL-length of eligibility
Accel is not available during Summer terms. Accel hours will be included in the 127 semester/190 quarter HOPE Combined-Paid-Hours limitation.

35 AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED FOR COLLEGE…….
Contact the Accel/Dual Enrollment representative at the selected college to schedule an advisement conference. Register for college classes in the spring to July/early August

36 AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED FOR COLLEGE…….
Attend mandatory Advisement Session at B.H.S in August (date to be announced). Provide Accel Coordinator with letter of acceptance copy of schedule

37 ACCEL-application process
These forms are found at Student completes “Student Section” of Accel Program Application Online High School completes “High School Section” of Accel Application College completes “College Section” of Accel Application Completed application is forwarded to GSFC and college invoices to GSFC

38 WHAT IS THE MOVE ON WHEN READY (MOWR) PROGRAM?
Provides opportunities for high school juniors and seniors to enroll full-time in postsecondary institutions to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously.

39 HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM THE ACCEL PROGRAM?
Accel: Full-time or part-time Hope funded Impacts Hope credits MOWR: Must attend college full-time FTE funded-State Department of Education Does not impact HOPE

40 WHO IS ELIGIBLE? A high school junior or senior seeking a high school diploma from an eligible Georgia high school The student should have been enrolled in a public school during the preceding October and March enrollment count.

41 WHO IS ELIGIBLE, cont’d? Be a legal resident of Georgia
Maintains satisfactory academic progress towards fulfilling applicable high school graduation requirements. Meets all college admission and registration requirements

42 HOW DO STUDENTS MAINTAIN ELIGIBILITY?
Be a full-time student for a minimum of 12 semester hours or the equivalent quarter hours after the drop/add period. Students who drop below full-time status for any reason during the term forfeit their eligibility to continue in MOWR program and will return to their local high school.

43 HOW IS IT FUNDED? The Georgia Department of Education
tuition, fees and materials. The student and parents/guardians would be responsible for all other possible expenses: food lodging transportation, etc.

44 WHAT ABOUT EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES?
MOWR students are eligible to participate in all interscholastic activities. Must meet all the requirements, schedules, and conditions to be able to participate. In some cases this may not be possible due to class schedule conflicts.

47 Joint Enrollment Defined
A process through which high school students take courses at a state public or private postsecondary institution while still enrolled as a high school student and receive college credit only at the postsecondary institution. It is an ACCEL program.
