Educational based sports have wavered from its original purpose. If we don’t begin to return to the mission and purpose of sport we will lose it from our schools. Club programs, youth sports, collegiate sport and professional sports have a different mission then does interscholastic sport. The intent of this course is to train interscholastic coaches and not other level coaches.
Key terms that are referred to throughout the course are “teacher/coach”, “student”, “student-centered coaching philosophy” and “teachable moments.”

Lessons that you learn in athletics are different than you can learn in the classroom
What is the point of being an adolescent? – find your boundaries and figure out who you are. Morally, physically, etc. Do this by pushing the envelope and straining at the reigns. But this is just against what coaches want – do what I asked you to do because I told you to. How do we make this work?
Place of winning – pleasant by product of educating students and developing good citizens. A non-educator your perspective of this is different than a trained educator. Winning isn’t bad. If you would do anything to win, that is bad.

Option B:
All 5 units completed in a computer lab or projected by an LCD under the guidance of an instructor (8-12 hours)
Registration and all tests online
Units 3, 4, and 5 would be locked and must be viewed to take each unit test (2-4 hours)
Option C:
Units 1 and 2 presented using NFHS CD/ROM. Units 3, 4, and 5 presented by instructor using their own materials. (8-12 hours)
Option b and c – would teach it ALL on line but then coaches would have to go back and complete 3-5 AGAIN to take the exams. This is a LONG version of the course and only really good IF you need hours.

This calendar year, the NFHS is going to give the instructor the course free. We need to sign the intent form – after talking next week. They would like us to commit by July.
VPA/VSADA has to approve ALL instructors – not everyone should be an instructor.
