03-12-2008 Stephane Deghaye (AB/CO)

03-12-2008 2 The InCA project - S. Deghaye Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation Workshop Motivations & Objectives Scope Planning Work Packages Human Resources & Budget Summary Conclusions

03-12-2008 Reduce effort duplication Homogenise the solutions deployed across the accelerator complex. Reduce the number of specific applications needed by providing high-level services. Reduce maintenance cost Suppress remaining 30+ X-Motif applications Renovate & redefine some (obscure) PS specific parts. Improve Controls system performance Tackle the performance, scalability and reliability problems experienced in the PS complex. Provide sound technical solutions to common problems badly handle due to architecture limitations. 3 The InCA project - S. Deghaye Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation Workshop

03-12-2008 All accelerators except LHC. SPS only for some components (Timing) Most of the CO high-level software components Generic/specific applications General services (control, acquisition and configuration) Data model and data access Timing (aiming at a complete integration) Some low-level components (to ensure vertical coherency) FESA framework services and class guidelines CMW services 4 The InCA project - S. Deghaye Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation Workshop

03-12-2008 5 The InCA project - S. Deghaye Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation Workshop First two phases completed  Architecture validated during several MDs Release 1.0 with minimal set of feature end of summer 09 (or end of the 09 run). Version 1.0 not to replace existing system (reduced functionality) Transition phase from mid 2010 (early estimation)

03-12-2008 13 The InCA project - S. Deghaye Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation Workshop Project well on the way (Architecture validated) Homogenise the high-level control system across the accelerators while keeping the specific ways of operating +/- 9 FTEs & 200 kCHF per year needed over 4 years
