December 3, 20031Muon Integration Meeting Outline: Status of Calorimeter and Muon system Plug simulations Status of plug dimensions Conclusions Reminder: Alessia showed in the September meeting that the rates in M2R1 increased compared to the TDR. However, her numbers are in reasonable agreement with the ones Karl obtained in November 2001. ->Optimization of the plugs has started Plugs around the beam pipe

December 3, 2003Muon Integration Meeting Plugs around the Beam Pipe Transition between beampipe section 3 and 4 will most likely move under the HCAL (20 cm backwords Materials have to be optimized Shape of the plugs has to be optimized Clearances have to be introduced

December 3, 20033Muon Integration Meeting Results of simulations of Alessia and Roberta: Standard 1) 2) 3) 4) M222.3 +-0.2 20.5+-1. 17.5+-0.6 16.5+-1. 19.8+-0.6 M3 5.44+-0.05 5.2+-0.3 5.1+-0.15 4.0+-0.3 5.4+-0.15 M4 3.9 +-0.04 3.8+-0.2 3.8+-0.12 2.6+-0.2 3.8+-0.12 M5 3.7 +-0.03 3.9+-0.15 3.9+-0.09 2.7+-0.15 3.9+-0.09 (Given are the average number of hits per interaction) Standard: Ecal(W)-Hcal(Fe), empty space of about 1cm around the BP 1) Ecal(W)-Hcal(Fe), same materials as standard but no empty space around BP 2) Ecal(W)-Hcal(W) Standard dimensions (1cm empty space), W in both plugs 3) Ecal(W)-Hcal(W) Large dimensions (no empty space), W in both plugs. Here also the plugs around the beampipe in the muon system are large, so the rate in M3-M4 are not quite comparable to the previous cases. 4) Ecal(W)-Hcal(Pb) Standard dimensions (1cm empty space). Plugs around the beam pipe

December 3, 20034Muon Integration Meeting Results of simulations (ctd.): Standard 2) 4) –M2R1 13.8+-0.3 9.1+-0.3 10.8+-0.3 –M2R2 9.8+-0.2 7.3+-0.2 8.3+-0.2 –M2R3 3.7+-0.1 2.8+-0.1 3.3+-0.1 –M2R4 2.2+-0.06 1.8+-0.06 1.9+-0.06 –Total 29.6+0.4 20.9+-0.4 24.2+-0.4 –(Given are the average number of logical channels fired per event) ->Region 1 is critical ! Plugs around the beam pipe

29 May 2002Muon Meeting Hit rates in the various stations Rate in Station 2 is much more critical than the rate in the other stations. (Different beam pipe shapes not important for this optimization)

5 March 2001FE-Interface Meeting Details: –Wire fixation bars (top/bottom): ~30mm –Gap bars (side):~20mm –Gas connection side:~30mm –HV-part (HV-bus, R, C):~35mm –Cathode readout (bottom/side):~20mm –SP-board, FE-board, Connector: ~20mm Sums: –Top with Anode/Cathode Readout:~85mm –Bottom with Cathode readout~70mm –Bottom no readout~35mm –Side no readout:~50mm –Side with Cathode readout~60mm Space Requirements for Border Region

5 March 2001FE-Interface Meeting Beam Pipe Region Dimensions in M2: Present shield configurationRealistic shield configuration

December 3, 2003Muon Integration Meeting Beam Pipe Region Dimensions in M2: Shield configuration More realistic shield for the TDR:configuration: 253 308 85 33-10 (clearance) 28-10 45

December 3, 2003Muon Integration Meeting Plugs around the Beam Pipe Conclusions: Realistic plugs seem have only ½ the dimensions of the ones we assumed up to know! Very bad for rates in M2 and ageing ! It becomes urgent to check the system performance with the new dimensions ! The plug dimensions for M3-M5 have to be added.
