2 Announcements & Reminders To the teacher: Turn on the recording! (PowerPoint will be posted.) Reminders of things to do leading up to and including the Sunday WebEx session: Complete and submit your L22 report by Friday. Read over the L11 lab instructions. Then do L11PL by 11:00 AM Sunday. Assemble your circuits equipment. Sign in for the WebEx session before 1:00 PM Sunday. Assemble your circuits equipment. Sign in for the WebEx session before 1:00 PM Sunday. During the WebEx session, you’ll: Collect data for L11 on series and parallel circuits. (1 hr) Complete L12, a short lab on capacitors. (1 hr) Participate in a demo lab that I’ll lead on RC circuits. (1 hr)

3 Coming up next week No assignment is due Monday. However, your L11 report is due Tuesday. The Tuesday WebEx session will be an optional attendance session. Log in only in you have questions or need help with the lab. We’ll continue with Ch. 21 assignments during the week. C10 will be due Friday of next week. You’ll need to arrange with your proctor for a 90-minute test. Material covered will be Chs. 19-21.

4 About the law of conservation of charge The statement of the law of conservation of charge in textbook is too general for typical applications. No one deals with the entire universe when solving a problem. It makes practical sense to do the usual thing when applying a conservation law: Define the system. Then you could say that the total charge of the system is conserved (doesn’t change) as long as the system is isolated. In this context, isolated means that no charge enters or leaves the system.

5 To do during this session Collect data for the multimeter tutorial (MMT). Email me when you’ve submitted the data. I’ll let you know if everything looks OK or if you need to re-examine something. Assuming things go well with MMT, you should finish this well before the end of the WebEx session. In that case, continue with tomorrow’s assignment, V15. View the video clip and then collect your data. Enter your data in the WA form. Email me when you’ve entered your data, and I’ll look it over.
