1 Window Treatments What is a window treatment?
The decorative or functional covering applied to the inside or outside of a window. Includes items like shades, horizontal or vertical blinds, shades, drapes, curtains, valances, or interior shutters “Window Treatment” can be used interchangeable with “window covering” or window dressing”, but window treatment is the preferred term.

5 Draperies vs. Curtains What is the difference?
Draperies – pleated panels of fabric that cover windows completely or are pulled to the side, and reach the floor. (More formal than curtains.) Curtains – these are constructed with unlined fabric and may be sheer to medium weight.

14 HORIZONTAL BLINDS Window coverings made of a series of evenly spaced slats that may be opened or closed by cords. Aluminum Blinds Wood Blinds

16 Shutters Vertical sections of wood or manufactured material hinged together. Very energy efficient; used to give window a clean, uncluttered look.

17 Homework Assignment: Take a picture of a window treatment in your home, in both the up and down, or open and closed position. In order to get 20 pts credit, you must bring the pictures to class tomorrow already printed. (This is easily done with a cell phone and then downloaded to your computer to print, or ed to yourself and printed from your ).
