2 Hide and Seek  If you start before I say GO you are automatically disqualified! Listen to the instructions. You will search the room to find the hide and seek question. Once you have found it, quietly return it to Ms. Stewart. Next, tap everyone in the room on the left shoulder and tell them to have a seat because the game is over. If you fail to follow these instructions you are out of the game.

3 Warm Up for Today Sentences and Sentence Fragment  Read and write the brief paragraph below. Underline the subject once and highlight or underline the predicate twice. Born in 1934 in Oklahoma, Momaday lived on Navajo and Apache reservations in the Southwest. As a young woman, Momaday attended the University of New Mexico and Standford University. In his first book, The Way to Rainy Mountain, he tells about the myths and history of the Navajo people.

4 Finding the Subject in a sentence  Sentences consist of two basic parts: subjects and predicates.  To find the subject, ask who or what is doing something or whom or what is being talked about.  The subject may come at the beginning, middle, or end of a sentence.  Lets focus on the complete subject. 

5 Examples of Subjects in Sentences  Example: The young ladies on the team were all good players.  Example: The pitcher struck Felicia out.  Example:After practicing for hours, Timmy bowled two strikes.  Example:When will the afternoon train arrive?  Example:How kind you are!  Example:Hiding in the tall grass was a baby rabbit.

6 Show What You Know  In your Language textbook, complete pages 53 and 54, exercise 3 and 4. Do numbers 1-10 on both pages. **Only write the answers!!!!

7 Homework  Copy the paragraph below. Highlight the subject or underline the subject once and underline the predicate (verb) twice. Ray Bradbury is a writer of science fiction. The Golden Apples of the Sun is a collection of Bradbury’s short stories. The main character in one of his short stories is called Mr. Eckels. For ten thousand dollors, Mr. Eckel sold his short stories to another writer. Bradbury’s short stories made time travel exciting reading.

8 Let’s Learn Our Prepositions  Prepositions will help you to identify and locate the subject in the sentence.  Note to Stewart: Students will copy the preposition chart from the power point on Wednesday or Thursday.
