5 THE POSITION (YOUR STANCE, YOUR POSITION) WHAT ARE SOME ISSUES/CONFLICTS/VALUES YOU MAY WORK WITH ONE PERSON SITTING NEXT TO YOU. KEEP THE VOLUME APPROPRIATE AND DISCUSSION ON TASK. PARTICIPATION POINTS. 7 MINUTES. Puritan Identity and Conformity

6 THE COUNTER ARGUMENT How can someone argue with your position?  Imagine you are in class and someone says, “I disagree with ______, because….”

7 THE REASON (THE CHARACTER(S)) Why do you believe your position to be correct?  How do you convince the person that disagreed with you in class?  Introduce your character(s) that you will use as support.

8 PUT THEM ALL TOGETHER Combine steps 1, 2, 3, and 4.  This is a “rough draft” thesis. You will change/adjust it as you write.  Not all members of Puritan communities conformed entirely to the Puritan way, but all were terrified of the consequences that awaited if an individual identity was discovered; Arthur Miller’s The Crucible depicted the issues of Puritan conformity through John Proctor, Abigail Williams, and Giles Corey.
