1 Sun

2 Sun Facts The Sun is the centre of solar system and all the planets revolve around its fixed orbit. The sun is the closest star to the earth but it still takes about 8 minutes for light from the sun to reach earth. The sun rotates once every 25 days. The Sun is 109 times wider than Earth, and 333,000 times heavier.  98% of all matter within the Solar System is found within the Sun.

3 Why is the Sun Important?
Sunlight is required for photosynthesis which is the process that plants undergo to give off oxygen and make food.  The sun gives us heat and light for warmth and sight. In the early morning, the sunrays helps us by providing Vitamin D which is essential for our skin. Sunlight also helps to stop the growth of bacteria, insects and thus prevent the spread of diseases like malaria, typhoid, etc.  The sun’s gravitational force keeps the planets in their orbits.
