Us e the following pages to develop an understanding of Equal Groups Division Situations-Number of Groups. Directions: In Smart Notebook, draw sketches and use pictures from the Gallery to represent what is being divided in each of the word problems. Use Slide 2 to model how to represent the division situation-determining the number of groups.(Slide 2 includes animation for modeling of content understanding only.) Write the corresponding repeated subtraction and division equations. Students can also use concrete manipulatives and a whiteboard to represent what is being divided in each of the word problems. Equal Groups -Measurement Division

If 8 apples were packed 2 to a bag, then how many bags are needed?

If 8 apples were packed 2 to a bag, then how many bags are needed?

If 8 apples were packed 2 to a bag, then how many bags are needed? 8 - 2 = 6

If 8 apples were packed 2 to a bag, then how many bags are needed? 8 - 2 = 6 6 - 2 = 4

If 8 apples were packed 2 to a bag, then how many bags are needed? 8 - 2 = 6 6 - 4 = 2 4 - 2 = 2

If 8 apples were packed 2 to a bag, then how many bags are needed? 8 - 2 = 6 6 - 4 = 2 4 - 2 = 2 2 - 2 = 0

If 8 apples were packed 2 to a bag, then how many bags are needed? 8 2 = 4 Four bags are needed.

Grandma baked 36 donuts. She gave each of her grandchildren 4 donuts. How many grandchildren does Grandma have?

$35 ÷ $5 = 7 bags OR $35 - $5 = $30 or 1 bag $30 - $5 = $25 or 2 bags $25 - $5 = $20 or 3 bags $20 - $5 = $15 or 4 bags $15 - $5 = $10 or 5 bags $10 - $5 = $5 or 6 bags $5 - $5 = $0 or 7 bags
