2 Beefmaster Developed at the Lancaster Ranch in Texas. Brahman, Hereford and Shorthorn cross. ½ Brahman, ¼ Shorthorn, ¼ Hereford Range of colors

3 Braford Developed in Florida in 1947. Cross between a Hereford Bull and a Brahman Cow. Red coloring of the Hereford with a white belly, feet, and face. Most have red pigments around the eyes. Stockier than the Hereford, like the Brahman. Heat tolerant, hardy, with an ornery disposition.

4 Brahman Originated from bos indicus cattle from India. Colors from light grey to red. Very heat tolerant Short hair coat, black skin pigments, loose skin allows them to withstand heat, have sweat glands, and they produce less internal body heat. Rapid rate of growth.

5 Brangus 3/8 Brahman and 5/8 Angus Known for its disease resistance, hardiness, heat and humidity tolerant, and carcass quality. Breed is recognized to have founded in 1932. Must be solid black and polled.

6 Charolais Originated in west-central to southeastern France. White or creamy in color with skin pigmentation. Used as draft, milk, and meat. Thick hair coat, horned, large framed.

7 Chianina One of the oldest breeds in existence. Originated in west central part of Italy. Originally used as a draft animal. Large breed with considerable leg length, good action and heavy muscling. White to steel grey in color. Bulls dark grey around their front ends. Black pigmented skin, points and mucosa. Forward sloping black horns. Well formed muscling Small udders and not good milk production.

8 Galloway Originated in the Province of Galloway. Characteristics: dark, smooth polled, wavy haired with undercoats like beaver hair. Coat colors range from dark black, Dun, Red, White with dark pigments

9 Gelbvieh Originated in Bavaria, Germany. Cross between the Bernese and Swiss Brown cattle. Originally selected for meat, milk, and work. Red in color with strong skin pigmentation and horned. Superior fertility, calving ease, mothering ability, and high growth rate in cattle.

10 Hereford Originated in Herefordshire, England. Developed for beef. Red with white face and underline. Horned and polled versions.

11 Limousin Golden-red colored. Originated in the south central part of France in Limousin. Very sturdy, healthy and adaptable. Very muscular hind quarters. Muscle Growth Efficiency

12 Maine Anjou Originated in the northwestern part of France. Very dark red in color with white markings on the head, belly, rear legs and tail. Dual purpose breed.

13 Pinzgauer Dual purpose breed. Originated in Austria in the 1600s. Hardy, tolerant of cold conditions, high fertility and extremely good mothers/milk producers. May be horned or polled.

14 Polled Hereford Developed in the late 1890s. Wanted outstanding beef-producing animals that were hornless. Developed of the original Horned Herefords.

16 Santa Gertrudis Developed at the King Ranch in Texas. Cross between Shorthorns and Brahman. 5/8 Shorthorn and 3/8 Brahman. Deep cherry red in color. Heat and tick resistant. Ease of calving, good mothering and abundant milk supply.

17 Shorthorn Originated on the northeastern coast of England in the counties of North Cumberland, Durham, York and Lincoln. Robert Bakewell, Colling Brothers, and the Booth family contributed to the foundation of the breed. Dual purpose breed. Red or reddish in color.

18 Simmental Among the oldest and most widely distributed of all the cattle breeds in the world. Originally found in Switzerland. Rapid growth development, outstanding milk production, butter and cheese, and used as draft animals.

19 Texas Longhorn Only cattle in America, specifically adapted to America. Ancestors of these cattle were the first cattle in the United States. Multi-colored. Both cows and bulls have large horizontal horns.
