1 HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE MEHAKEN & LOGZ

2 DESCRIPTION What is it? A telescope mounted on a satellite that orbits the Earth, used to observe distant parts of the universe and photograph them. Hubble is a telescope that orbits Earth’s atmosphere, which distorts and blocks the light that reaches our planet.. Who designed it? NASA came up with the orbiting telescope on April 24, 1990. 3 WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE? The Hubble Telescope was made so astronauts, astronomers and even the public can discover new images of our galaxy, other galaxies and other planets. To eliminate the distortion of the Earths atmosphere.

4 IMPACT OF THE TECHNOLOGY What have we learned from it? Hubble played a key role in discovering dark energy. Hubble’s observations of supernovas helped reveal that the mysterious energy is a constant presence in the universe. In addition it advanced many theories. Hubble is one of NASA’s most successful and long-lasting science missions. I has beamed hundreds of thousands of images back to Earth. It’s gaze has helped determine the age of our universe and the identity of quasars. It has shown the way that galaxies evolve. What have we learned from it? 5 IMPACT OF THE TECHNOLOGY What are the benefits of the Hubble Space Telescope? The Hubble is capable of taking incredibly vivid, detailed images of deep space phenomena. The Hubble is NASA's most successful and famous telescope. It has helped to establish a more accurate estimate of the age of the universe. What are the risks? There has always been a small risk that Hubble and other spacecraft could be damaged by the thousands of pieces of junk floating through space. The already hobbled Hubble Space Telescope could be further harmed by space debris. What are the benefits of the Hubble Space Telescope? 6 THE FUTURE ……… What are the plans for the future? Assuming all the Hubble's bits and pieces work as they're supposed to, the telescope should be able to continue functioning until the end of 2013. That's just an estimate -- in reality, the telescope might function longer than that. What are the plans for the future?
