 Tuskegee university started during the early 1880’s. The whites of the town in Alabama wanted a school for the african-americans there and they invited Mr. Booker T. Washington to be the first instructor for it

 Mr. Washington often had a rough time teaching his alumni since the building he was provided was in a mediocre condition. Students sometimes had to hold an umbrella in order to pay attention to Mr. Washington

 Mr. Washington was born by a slave and grew up as one. After WWI he moved with his mother to West Virginia. She remarried and worked with his step-father.He eventually got a back and woke at 4 in the mornig to learn before he worked.Eventually he got a job as a houseboy for Viola Ruffner. She saw his desire for an education and let him go to school once and hour in the winter season. He went on to further his education and establish Tuskegee University. He is also well know for his speech the “Atlanta Compromise”

 “The pride of the swift, growing South”  The reason for this was how well Mr.Washington was able to teach and expand his students knowledge.  He didn’t just teach academics, but also taught agriculture, morality, and basic hygiene

 In 1895, Booker T. Washington publicly put forth his philosophy on race relations in a speech at the Cotton States and International Exposition in Atlanta, Georgia, known as the "Atlanta Compromise.”  This quote to me is powerful since the Atlanta Compromise spoke that blacks should accept disenfranchisement, so long as whites allow them economic progression and etc.
