3 OBJECTIVES WALT (We Are Learning To): Understand how you can search a database. Know how to use search criteria to narrow down results. Understand how you can use AND, & OR to improve search results. WILF (What I’m Looking For): You can create a simple query You can use a query with multiple criteria You can create a parameter query.

4 FINDING INFORMATION Imagine if your database table had 20,000 records. If you wanted to find something, it would take you a long time. We can write QUERIES to find information. Let’s look at an example, using a database.database Simple Query Multiple Criteria (AND OR) Parameter Query

5 YOUR TASK – USING LAST WEEK’S DATABASE Using last week’s database in your My Documents 1. Create a simple query which gives you a list of students who like the same drink (e.g. Fanta) - Save your query as: Drink Query 1. Create a query which gives you a list of students who like one of two different foods (e.g. Pizza or Chips). - Save your query as: Food Query 2. Create a parameter query which lets the user enter a favourite sweet and find out who likes them. - Save your query as: Sweet Query (THERE IS A SPARE DATABASE FOR PEOPLE WITHOUT DATA)

6 EXTENSION: Try and create a form for your table. Use the video on the WIKI to help you.

7 PLENARY(BALL GAME) What is a query? What are the benefits of using queries? What is a parameter query? What would the following queries display in a table of sports players containing their name, sport and team. Sport = football AND Team = Middlesbrough Sport = rugby OR football AND Team = England
