* Roller skates were invented by Hoans Brinker. * In 1770 Joseph Merlin created roller skates in one line. Those skates had metal wheels and was difficult to brake with them. * The first Roller skates with two wheels on each side was invented by James Plimpton in 1863 and they received the name of quad. * People were practising this sport in France, in Switzerland and in the U.S.A along the nineteenth century.

* To practise this sport is necessary to have quads or skates in-line, a helmet, knee pads, elbow patches and wristbands. * This sport can be performed in a lot of places: circuits, tracks, streets or roads with long distance. * In competition, participants must wear shorts but when people practise it on their own, and in case they are beginners on this sport, they must wear long trousers. * The rules will depend on the type of skating to be performed: it can be hockey, ice skating…

* With skates we can move very fast and burn as many calories as running or cycling. * It’s not a dangerous sport but we have to take some security measures to prevent forearm fractures, because it’s the most common injury. * Also they can cause pain on the ankles.

* Skate isn’t an Olympic sport discipline, but it’s recognised by the International Olympic Committee like the best type of roller skating, and it’s considered the need to add it like sport discipline in the Olympic Games. * There are other competitive disciplines like doing figures, free dance, show, in-line, skating with a partner, speed-skating…

* Tanja Romano is considered the world’s roller skating champion. She has got 15 gold medals. * Another famous athlete is Valentina Escobar, argentina national champion in junior category.

* I choose this sport because I usually practise it. It’s a sport that I love and I think It’s beautiful. * I practise this sport when I don’t have to study in a specific park. * I recomend this sport because It’s interesting, beautiful and good for your healthy.
