2  The Wall Street Crash of 1929, also known as Black Tuesday, began in late October 1929 and was the most devastating stock market crash in the history of the United States.  On this day, millions of stocks were sold as people frantically tried to get out of the market.  People went bankrupt and businesses closed overnight.

4  Herbert Hoover  Easily won the Republican nomination, despite having no elected-office experience.  strongly in the Efficiency Movement

5  A "Hooverville" is the popular name for shanty towns built by homeless people during the Great Depression.  They were named after Herbert Hoover, who was President of the United States during the onset of the Depression and widely blamed for it.

9  Democrat.  New Deal Program to get Americans employed  3 Rs": Relief, Recovery, and Reform. That is Relief for the unemployed and poor; Recovery of the economy to normal levels; and Reform of the financial system to prevent a repeat depression.

10  Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned corporation in the United States created by congressional charter in May 1933 to provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing, and economic development in the Tennessee Valley.  Dams, Nuclear Power, Fossil Fuel Plants.

14  Gov. Louisiana (1928-32).  Senator 1932-1935- --assassinated.  Populist.  Democrat.  Public Works programs, schools/colleges, hospitals.

15  AKA Court Packing Bill.  Many of FDR’s programs were declared unconstitutional.  FDR wanted to add more justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.  Roosevelt's purpose was to obtain favorable rulings regarding New Deal legislation that the court had ruled unconstitutional.  Plan Fails.

16  Passed in response to the growing turmoil in Europe and Asia that eventually led to World War II.  Untimely, Fails because we enter WWII.
