First results from CMD-3 detector at VEPP-2000 collider Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, SB RAS, Novosibirsk, Russia September 2011 E.Solodov (for CMD-3 collaboration) PhiPsi2011, Novosibirsk, Russia

OUTLINE 1 - VEPP-2000 collider, motivation 2 - Physics program 3 – CMD-3 detector 4 – first physics run 5 – First preliminary results

VEPP-2M collider complex (1974-2000) High luminosity: L=5×10 30 cm -2 s -1 : Radiative polarization Spin precession frequency measurements mass measurements e + e - anomalous magnetic moment comparison (10 -11 )

Overview of VEPP-2M results 1-5% systematic error for major channels

More BaBar data are available to obtain R in the energy range 1-2 GeV the processes              K + K -, K S K L, K S K L  K S K +     remain to be measured 1-5% systematic errors

Hadronic contribution to muon g-2 contribution error 2 (from F. Jegerlehner) VEPP-2M, BaBar, KLOE significantly reduced errors – Additional KLOE data (?) – BaBar will provide more multihadrons, perhaps Belle – < 1% systematic error for most of the channels is needed! 

VEPP-2M VEPP-2000 ♦ E  1 GeV (per beam) ♦ L  1×10 32 cm -2 sec -1 (1×1 bunch) (2000-2007) VEPP-2000

Physics program at VEPP-2000 1. Precise measurement of the quantity R=  (e+e -- > hadrons)/  (e+e -- >  +  -- ) – GOAL <1% systematic for major channels 2. Study of hadronic channels: e+e -- > 2h, 3h, 4h …, h= ,K,  3. Study of ‘excited’ vector mesons:  ’,  ’’,  ’,  ’,.. 4. CVC tests: comparison of e+e -- > hadr. (T=1) cross section with  -decay spectra 5. Study of nucleon-antinucleon pair production – nucleon electromagnetic form factors, search for NNbar resonances,.. 6. Hadron production in ‘radiative return’ (ISR) processes 7. Two photon physics 8. Test of the QED high order processes 2->4,5 Two detectors have been build for the study We hope to collect 0.5-1.0 fb -1 in few years

Cryogenic Magnetic Detector-3 1 – vacuum chamber 2 – drift chamber 3 – electromagnetic calorimeter BGO 4 – Z – chamber 5 – CMD SC solenoid 6 – electromagnetic calorimeter LXe 7 – electromagnetic calorimeter CsI 8 – yoke 9 – VEPP-2000 solenoid See dedicated poster

CMD-3 data collection !! Machine is running well, and detectors are taking data In 2011 we scan of 1-2 GeV energy range with 25 MeV step. We already have ~20 pb-1/detector ~x10 times to previous e + e - experiments, and comparable to ISR data from B-factories.

Collinear events in CMD-3 (E c.m. = 1.95 GeV) e+e-e+e- e + e - - used for luminosity meas. Currently ~1% syst. (goal ~0.1%) cosmic P-P+P-P+ K+K-K+K-   We plan precision measurements of the e + e - -> P - P +, K + K -,     processes in all energy range

Preliminary results for the e + e - -> PbarP study Clear signature of the PbarP events Number of events from momentum distributions Ec.m.=1.925 GeV Ec.m.=1.95 GeV Ec.m.=1.975 GeV Ec.m.=2.0 GeV Dedicated talk by E. Gromov on Wednesday

Preliminary results for the e + e - -> 2(     ) study We have relatively clean selection of 4 and 3 charged pions PbarP threshold BaBar CMD-3 Statistical errors are at the level of 1-2% per point. Systematical errors are under investigation. Detected tracks Missing tracks

Preliminary study of the e + e - ->         process Preliminary mass distributions study: a 1 (1260)  (770) We confirm a 1 (1260)  dominance. Some other states (  (770)f 0 (600),  (770)f 0 (980)) are seen, but small. E c.m. = 1400 MeVE c.m. = 1600 MeV E c.m. = 1800 MeV E c.m. = 2000 MeV

First look to the e + e - -> 2(     )   process We look for the   in addition to four “good” tracks satisfying energy-momentum conservation Detailed analysis is coming….  (782)  (545) f 0 (980) Example of  f 0 (980) signal In     final state. 

K+KK+K Ec.m. = 1.8 GeV Preliminary results for the e + e - -> K + K      study We have very clean selection of the         channel. BaBar CMD-3 Systematical errors are under investigation.  K separation by dEdX in DC  (770) K*(892)

Example of e + e - ->             from CMD-3

Preliminary results for the e + e - -> 3(     ) study We have very clean selection of 6 and 5 pions E 6tracks -2*E beam, (MeV) m 2 (  BaBar CMD-3 PbarP threshold Other data for e + e - -> 3(     )

Summary New generation CMD-3 detector perfectly matches the reach physics potential of VEPP-2000. CMD-3 detector is on the beams and is taking data – first scan from 1 GeV to 2 GeV with 25 MeV step with ~0.5 pb -1 /point is completed. First preliminary results are presented. More results are coming. Stay tuned… Welcome to PhiPsi2011
