4 ENGLISH COMPOSITION TWO Citing Sources in MLA Sources must be cited whenever you: Quote from an original source. Borrow an idea from an original source. Borrow factual information from a source (excluding common knowledge).

5 ENGLISH COMPOSITION TWO Parenthetical Citation in MLA Indicate the original source of the borrowed material in parenthesis. Include the author’s name and the page number in the original work. You may omit the author’s name if you already mentioned it within the text. Place the citation as close as possible to the borrowed material.
