Thesis Statement The book and the movie show courage through fighting, the mission to save Private Ryan, and protecting the bridge.

Fighting In Red Badge of Courage and Saving Private Ryan the men had a lot of courage to even go to war knowing that there was a good chance they might die. When Henry was in a battle it took him a while to actually have the courage to fight. He ran away at first but towards the end of the war he had to have the courage to stay and fight. He became a great and couragous fighter. He took the enemy's flag which won them the war.

The Mission To Save Private Ryan It took Captain Miller a lot of courage to risk his life along with the men in his regiment. Many of those men died just to save the one Private Ryan so he could go home to his mother. They overcame many obsticles in order to find him like when they attacked the bunker so the enemy won't shoot at other regiments that might come through. They never gave up on looking for Ryan even though they knew it was like finding a needle in a haystack.

Protecting The Bridge The regiment with Captain Miller showed courage by staying with the other men to protect the bridge because Private Ryan didnt want to abandon his fellow soldiers. They didn't need to stay and help at the bridge but they did and still finished the mission of saving Private Ryan. Upham finally showed courage at the end when he shot the soldier that killed two of his fellow soldiers eariler. Captain Miller also died at the end fighting for his country and Protecting the Private.

Conclusion In the Book Red Badge of Courage and Saving Private Ryan courage is showed by just fighting in the war, taking the risk of dying to save Private Ryan so he could go home, and dying while protecting the bridge when it wasn't even part of their mission. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r8zgU7wE8w please watch the first minute of this video
