Veterans of Foreign wars BY Ousama Alamin

Aims Its mission stamen is “foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans”. Have a group where solidarity can be achieved form former people who served abroad in the USA`s army. To protect and represent veterans across all platforms.

Brief history of the group Its roots dated back to 1899 – when people founded local organisations to secure rights for veterans During this veterans had no pensions and medical care they Some of theses veterans joined to make veterans of foreign wars a bit later on. Membership increased steadily and reached 200,000 by 1936

Type and membership numbers This pressure group has 1.4 million members The group is a sectional group as you have to meet certain criteria to join the group. See her https://www.vfw.org/Join/https://www.vfw.org/Join/ This can be a good thing as it shows exclusivity This can be a bad thing as many people who are not veterans are passionate about helping people who serve overseas I believe that this issue gains a lot of sympathy The group has insider status as it has worked with overmen to pass the GI bill Furthermore multiple (think its 9) former presidents have been members of this originations

Activities engaged in. One thing that they have done is that they have been involved in the creation of development of the national cemetery system They have also achieved compensation for Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent Orange and for veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome. They were important in passing the GI bill- the bill expanded educational benefits to America's active-duty service members, and members of the Guard and Reserves, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan(this happened in 2008 this is there most recent significant political achievement, lobbying) They also campaigned to improve VA medical centres services for women veterans. (lobbying) They also contributed to the building of Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial, which opened in November 2010.(direct action)

Key success There key recent success in my opinion was the GI bill as this gained veterans a range of special benefits nit also showed that they were still able to exert influence within the government this bill would have had an impact on a lot of their members lives by hopefully improving them.
