Epithelial Tissues CHARACTERISTIC: Epithelial tissue covers the whole surface of the body It is made up of cells closely packed Arranged in one or more layers. Epithelial cells are packed tightly, together With almost no intercellular spaces
3
Types: Simple epithelium - Epithelial tissue which is only one cell thick Stratified Epithelium -Two or more cells thick
4
Simple epithelium TYPES: 1. Squamous epithelium. 2. Simple Cuboidal Epithelium. 3. Simple Columnar Epithelium
5
Simple Columnar Epithelium (stomach) In one or more layers. The cells are elongated and column-shaped. The nuclei are elongated and located near the base of the cells. Lining in uterus and digestive tract function: secretion and absorption
6
Simple Cuboidal Epithelium (kidney) Cube- shaped cells Lining of kidney tubules and on surface of ovaries Function: proctection, secretion and absoption Nucleus: positioned centrally within the cytoplams of the cells
7
Squamous epithelium (artery) Has flattened cells Thin and irregular shape cells Nuclues is positioned centrally within the cytoplams of the cells Function: proctection, diffusion and filtration
